A return to the New York Giants for Odell Beckham Jr. is becoming more realistic by the day, as general manager Joe Schoen confessed on Wednesday that the team's front office is in contact with the free agent's representatives.

Although the Giants are 6-2 after an impressive start to the season, their receiving yards are ranked 30th in the NFL (1,410). Only the Bears (1,204) and the Titans (1,158) have a worst record, and New York is aware that it needs to reinforcements in that that department ahead of the postseason.

'We're gonna do our due diligence all the time and he's a guy that we've, you know, we've reached out to his representatives, we're in contact with his representatives, where he is in his rehab, what he's projected to be, whether its four weeks from now or five weeks in terms of his health, when he's gonna be available,' Schoen said of 'OBJ' on the TV show, Tiki + Tierney.

'He tore that ACL in February, so his timeline—we gotta figure out what that is, when's he gonna be 100 per cent healthy, what he's looking for financially,' he added.

'There's a lot of stuff that goes into it. Anybody that'll upgrade our roster, at any position, we're gonna pursue those and he checks that box of a guy we're gonna continue to stay in contact with.'

Beckham, who started his career for the Giants is currently a free agent and has been rehabbing the torn ACL he suffered while winning the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.

'Obviously he's been a good player. He's a guy we would consider and talk to, when he's healthy. I think he did the ACL in February, so not sure really where he is physically,' Schoen told reporters on Tuesday

Beckham previously took an unofficial visit to the team's building to see former teammates Sterling Shepard and Saquon Barkley.

'I had no idea he was in the building until he was out of the building,' Schoen said.

During his original stint in New York Beckham reached over 1,000 yards in four of his five seasons and three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2014 to 2016.

He also earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2015 and 2016.

Beckham has publicly toyed with the idea of returning to New York, responding to Barkley on twitter.

The Giants are one of the biggest surprises in the NFL as they head into a bye week with a .750 record and a real shot at making the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

With three more wins, the Giants can guarantee their first winning season in six years. With four or five wins in the last nine games, a playoff berth is likely.
