Aaron Carter missed his last rehab session which came just days before his unexpected death last week.

The singer and former child star, 34, was found dead last Saturday morning in his bathtub at his house in Lancaster, California, by the housekeeper.

Police said the child star and brother of Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter had drowned.

There were reportedly prescription pills and cans of compressed air in his bathroom.

Sources close to his fiancée Melanie Martin told TMZ she made him go to sessions with a view to taking back elements of custody of the couple’s son Prince.

Melanie’s mom is currently taking care of Prince, who is just 11 months old.

He was last in contact with someone in the early hours of Friday.

The L.A. County Coroner's Office is waiting for toxicology results to come back before it reveals a cause of death.

The tragic news came at the same time there were reports the troubled singer had been working on a new album.

Carter's managers said the singer believed the music he was working on was some of his best yet.

He was reportedly fueling his creative sides with his varied emotions.

Carter was a child star who hit it big in the early 2000s but whose adult life was scarred by drug addiction. His brother Nick was one of the Backstreet Boys

After Aaron's death, Nick wrote on Instagram: 'I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.

'Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here.'

Carter had been trying to sell the 7-bed, 4-bath home that he bought just two years ago for months. He took it off the market briefly in the summer but then listed it again for $829,900 in September, records show. He then reduced the price on October 24 to $799,900.

On Monday, two days after his death it was again taken off the market.

During his two years in the high-desert town of Lancaster, 70 miles north of Los Angeles, he had had dustups with several people in the area.

One neighbor who didn't want to be identified for fear of reprisal from his fans told DailyMail.com: 'Aaron had problems with several of the neighbors on his street, at least three of them have called police on him.

'Aaron was just arrogant, he thought he was better than everyone else in the neighborhood. He would brag about how he had better vehicles and his house was larger than most in the area.

There was always commotion coming from the house with Aaron and his on-again/off-again girlfriend, Melanie Martin arguing all hours of the day.

'We saw police out in front of his house every few months,' said the neighbor.

On several occasions, Aaron locked Melanie outside of his house, after a screaming match and she would bang on the door, screaming 'let me in.'
