Midterm Elections 2022: Live poll results, updates and map on candidates

VIEWS
Tuesday's midterm election results could see President Joe Biden's agenda effectively stymied for the next two years if projections of an expected Republican sweep of Congress come true.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs, as are 34 Senate seats and 36 governorships - in addition to a myriad of state and local roles.
Democrats have largely focused their campaigns on outrage over the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade and subsequent Republican-led efforts to curb abortion access. They've also ramped up warnings in the closing weeks that a GOP majority could pose a threat to democracy, given Donald Trump and his allies' efforts to upend his 2020 election loss.
Republicans, meanwhile, have focused their campaigns on kitchen table issues such as the economy, inflation and rising crime rates. A growing number of Americans are discontent with the state of their pocketbooks, and the GOP has tied that to Biden and Democrats' policies over the last two years.

Nevada Senate race narrows to just 0.7% gap as GOP candidate Adam Laxalt narrows in on incumbent Democrat
Nevada's Senate race majorly narrowed around 4am EST on Election Night as a ballot drop brought Republican Blake Masters within 0.7 percentage points of the incumbent Democratic senator with 68 percent reporting.
Officials and candidates have warned that results may not be known in Nevada for days after the election.
Nevada is among three west coast states that still count ballots that come in after November 8 but are post marked that date.

PROJECTED: Michigan House Democrat wins reelection after warning of delays
Democratic Representative Elissa Slotkin won reelection to Michigan's 7th congressional district in a right race against Republican Tom Barrett., AP projected around 3am.
Slotkin was among the most vulnerable Democrats of the campaign cycle – and was warning of delays after polls closed in her state at 8pm.
The incumbent Democrat's campaign manager reportedly said the results will not be in on Election Day due to the length of time it will take to count the votes.
With 93 percent of the voted tallied, Slotkin is the projected winner with a 3.7 percent lead.

Kari Lake says she will fight for days to get 'fair' election as she falls 11 point behind Democrat Katie Hobbs
Kari Lake insists she will fight for 'fair' elections as she trails Democrat gubernatorial opponent Katie Hobbs by 11 points in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
'I said to [God], ‘You make this victory come whatever way you want.’ If it comes decisive on Election Day, then bring it to us that way. If we have to fight through the BS and the garbage, then we will fight through the BS and the garbage,' Lake told supporters during a watch party event.
Lake said that the election machine malfunctions prove 'that we have incompetent people running the show in Arizona.'
The former broadcast journalist said she will 'fight' to make elections 'fair and free' and told supporters that hope isn't lost for a victory.
'I just want you to know, it’s early. It’s very early,' she reasoned. 'And if we have to take this fight through, we will. If it takes hours or days, we will.'
Republican candidate for Arizona governor Kari Lake speaks during the Republican election party in Scottsdale, Arizona. She said she will 'fight for days fair elections' as she shows 11 points behind her Democratic rival with just 52% of the vote reported

PROJECTION: Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers keeps Governor's Mansion blue
Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers was able to best his Republican challenger and keep the swing state's executive blue.
The Associated Press projected just after 2am on Election Night that Evers will hold his spot in the Governor's mansion – keeping GOP rival Tim Michels at bay.
With 93 percent of the vote reporting, Evers remains ahead by 3 percentage points.
Wisconsin voted for President Joe Biden in 2022 by just 0.6 percent.

Kevin McCarthy celebrates GOP wins despite 'red tsunami' waning to a 'red wave'
Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy celebrated Tuesday night despite fellow GOP lawmakers admitting gains in Congress were not as significant as they previously hoped.
'It is clear that we are going to take the House back,' McCarthy lauded to a cheering crowd just before 2am following Election Day.
Republicans need to flip five seats in the House to win a majority and need a net gain of one seat in the Senate to take back the upper chamber.
'When you wake up tomorrow, we will be in the majority and Nancy Pelosi will be in the minority,' McCarthy predicted.

PROJECTION: Democrats flip another House seat after funneling money into Trump-backed candidate there
Democrat Hillary Scholten won Michigan's 3rd Congressional District, which is currently held by pro-Trump impeachment GOP Rep. Peter Meijer.
House Democrats embarked on a controversial plan to get an easier general election race by funneling cash into the district to bolster Meijer's fringe-right opponent, John Gibbs.
Gibbs previously served within Donald Trump's Housing and Urban Development Department. He also previously accused Hillary Clinton's ex-campaign manager of participating in Satanic rituals.
Critics of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's efforts said it would be on their own heads if an extreme candidate like Gibbs sailed to victory.
But it appears that won't happen, and the race is yet another one in which Democrats have -at least temporarily - staved off expectations of a Republican takeover of Congress.

PROJECTION: John Fetterman wins Pennsylvania Senate race in major victory for Democrats
Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman has won the state's nationally-watched Senate race, the Associated Press has projected.
Fetterman enjoyed a small but consistent lead ahead of Republican celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz for much of the night - though the race was expected to come down to a knife's edge.
President Joe Biden congratulated Fetterman via text message, the White House said.
His campaign was briefly thought to have been derailed after the candidates' first and only debate - where Fetterman's auditory processing disorder and speech issues that he's dealt with since suffering a stroke in May were on full display.
But Oz, despite an endorsement from Donald Trump, has had some trouble resonating with a wide swath of Pennsylvania voters.

Pelosi gloats about Democrats beating the odds on election night
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a statement in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as Democrats hold the line against an expected 'red wave' across the country.
'While many races remain too close to call, it is clear that House Democratic Members and candidates are strongly outperforming expectations across the country. As states continue to tabulate the final results, every vote must be counted as cast,' Pelosi said.
As of just before 2am ET on Wednesday, Republicans have flipped four seats while Democrats managed to flip an open North Carolina district held by GOP Rep. Ted Budd, who vacated it for a successful run for North Carolina's Senate seat.
Republicans still need just two more wins to clinch a House majority - but it's not clear how far over that line they'll get right now.

PROJECTION: GOP Senator Mike Lee defeats Independent Evan McMullin in Utah
Republican Senator Mike Lee has won another six-year term representing Utah after winning a race that grew uncomfortably close for the conservative incumbent.
Utah Democrats had rejected backing their own candidate to take on Lee in the red state, instead throwing their support behind Independent Evan McMullin, a former CIA analyst.
McMullin hoped Utahans would respond positively to a conservative who shunned Lee's pro-Donald Trump allegiances.
Things briefly looked grim for Lee when even his fellow Utah Republican senator, Mitt Romney, declined to wade into the race to endorse him.

Another Republican candidate backed by Donald Trump has been defeated as the Associated Press projects victory for Michigan's Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
She was up against Tudor Dixon, a former conservative media personality, in one of the tightest races the battleground state has seen this year.
The race remained a close one right until the end - around 1:30am ET, after the race was called, Whitmer was only ahead by less than 200,000 votes with 66 percent of precincts reporting.
President Joe Biden called Whitmer to congratulate her on her victory.

The whole 'Squad' wins re-election
Every member of the House Democratic progressive 'Squad' has won re-election, the Associated Press projects.
Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush all easily won their respective races.
While it won't affect the makeup of next year's House of Representatives, their decisive victories indicate that progressive voices such as theirs will be a longtime fixture within the Democratic Party

Lee Zeldin refuses to concede lost gubernatorial race
House Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin, who has cast doubt on President Joe Biden's 2020 electoral victory, is now disputing multiple media outlets' projections that he lost his campaign for New York governor to Democrat Kathy Hochul.
'It's gonna be a little frustrating for the members of the media who didn't want us ever to be in contention here in New York,' Zeldin said at his election night watch party.
'I'm sure NBC was pretty excited about trying to hold this race quickly. So at one point yeah, the race says we were down 30-something, then it became 20-something, and then it's 15. And now it's under 10. We have been crushing the Election Day vote all across the entire state.'
06:05
PROJECTION: House Democrat Chris Pappas fends off challenge from ex-Trump staffer
House Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas, a moderate, has successfully survived a primary challenger who had the backing of Donald Trump as well as House GOP leadership.
Karoline Leavitt, 25, would have been the second Gen Zer to be elected to Congress after Florida's Maxwell Frost won earlier on Election Day.
But it appears her brand of Trump Republicanism has been rejected by the moderate battleground state's voters.
Similar to Leavitt, Trump-aligned Don Bolduc lost his bid to unseat Democrat New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan.

John Fetterman declares victory in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman declared victory just before 1am Eastern Time on Wednesday morning, at the end of a long and highly contentious race to replace outgoing GOP Senator Pat Toomey.
The Associated Press has yet to name a winner in his race against Donald Trump-backed celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz, though other outlets like NBC have called the race.
'It's official. I will be the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. We bet on the people of Pennsylvania - and you didn’t let us down And I won’t let you down. Thank you,' Fetterman wrote.
Allies of his were previously worried that a stroke Fetterman suffered in May and the subsequent auditory processing issues he has dealt with could have derailed his candidacy.
It's official. I will be the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania.

PROJECTION: New York Governor Kathy Hochul beats House GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin
New York's Democrat governor Kathy Hochul has defeated Long Island-based House GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin in her first election for Albany's governors mansion, the Associated Press projects.
Zeldin, who voted against certifying President Joe Biden's electoral victory after Donald Trump's supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, had seen a last-minute surge in late prospective voter polls in the Empire State.
He largely capitalized on the rising crime wave across New York State and New York City, but it proved not to be enough in the blue stronghold.
It's Hochul's first election for a full term. She took office in August 2021 after disgraced ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo's resignation.

PROJECTION: First Mexican-born American woman elected to Congress loses re-election
Republican Rep. Mayra Flores' tenure in the House of Representatives will be brief after the Associated Press projected her losing Texas' 34th Congressional District to House Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez.
She won a special election in June to replace retiring Democrat Rep. Filemon Vela Jr.
Gonzalez previously represented Texas' 15th District before a newly-redrawn Congressional map pitted him against Flores in Tuesday's race.
Of the Texas districts that are in play tonight, the 34th Congressional District was among the likeliest to fall back into Democratic hands.

PROJECTION: Democrats flip North Carolina's 13th Congressional District
Democrat Wiley Nickel has defeated Republican House hopeful Bo Hines in North Carolina's 13th Congressional District in a major win for the left.
The seat was vacated by GOP Rep. Ted Budd, who won the state's open Senate seat tonight.
Hines, 27, is a political newcomer that was widely compared to outgoing North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn. Like Cawthorn he was also endorsed by Donald Trump.

Biden phones more victorious Democrats as fears of a 'red tsunami' dissipate
President Joe Biden continued to make congratulatory calls to victorious Democratic candidates on Tuesday evening as projections continued to roll in on November 8.
He spoke to New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan, who was able to fend off a tough Republican challenge from Trump-backed Donald Bolduc. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer received a call after becoming the projected winner in her reelection battle against Tudor Dixon, who gave the pro-lockdown governor a run for her money in the swing state.
Biden also called Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and Maine Governor Janet Mills as they were able to keep the Governor’s Mansions in their respective states blue.
He also spoke with Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to congratulate her on another term, as well as Senator Alex Padilla and Representatives-elect Seth Magaziner of Rhode Island and Emilia Sykes of Ohio.
Maryland Governor-elect Wes Moore received a call to congratulate him on flipping the state’s executive blue in succeeding outgoing Republican Governor Larry Hogan, who reached his term limits.
Pennsylvania's Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro will be the Keystone State's next governor.
Shapiro won over hard-right Republican state Sen. Doug Mastriano, who led efforts in the legislature to overturn the 2020 presidential election and was in Washington, D.C. on January 6.
Former President Donald Trump backed Mastriano right before Pennsylvania's May primary, when it was apparent he would win, but he trailed Shapiro in the general election polls for months.
Mastriano made headlines when Reuters unearthed a photo from several years ago of the GOP hopeful posing for an Army War College staff photo sporting a Confederate uniform. Mastriano represented Gettysburg in the state Senate - where one of the bloodiest Civil War battles was fought, with Pennsylvania fighting for the union.

Oz remains defiant in Pennsylvania despite narrowly trailing in tight Senate race
A defiant Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz insisted just after midnight Wednesday that he would win his tight Pennsylvania Senate race against John Fetterman, despite the Democrat leading him all night.
'When all the ballots are counted, we believe we will win this race,' he said at his watch party in Newtown, Pennsylvania. 'We've been closing the gap all night, and we have a lot more ballots to go.'
Early returns showed Fetterman way out ahead of Oz, as votes from the blue, urban areas poured in first. Votes from Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh and Braddock - where Fetterman served as mayor - and Philadelphia swung the race heavily toward the Democrat. More conventional red counties, which are less populated, tilted toward Oz and were slower to report - but by midnight about a point separated the two candidates.
'I have told you many, many times that I believe in you - traveled all over the Commonwealth to make that message clear - tonight you have told me that you believe in me,' Oz told his crowd. 'Bless you for that.'
Democratic Senate hopeful John Fetterman took an early lead over Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania's pivotal Senate race, as votes from the blue, urban areas poured in first.

PROJECTION: Nancy Pelosi wins re-election in California
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi easily won re-election in her deep blue San Francisco, California district, AP projects.
She told PBS earlier on Tuesday evening that she believes Democrats will keep their slim majorities in the House and Senate, despite a myriad of forecasts that suggested a GOP victory.
Pelosi did not say however whether she would stay in a leadership role if Democrats did face significant losses in the election.
05:19
PROJECTION: Republican Any Ogles flips blue Nashville Congressional district
Republicans flipped a fourth House seat in the early hours of Wednesday morning, when Tennessee's 5th Congressional District went to Republican candidate Andy Ogles over Democrat Heidi Campbell.
Next year will be the first since the Southern Reconstruction Era that Republicans will represent the Nashville area in the House of Representatives.

Ted Cruz admits he's underwhelmed by Republicans' performance so far
Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz said during a taping of his podcast on Tuesday night, 'It hasn’t been as big of a wave as I’d hoped it would be.'
'We’ve had some close races go the other way so far,' Cruz said. 'I think we're still on a path for a sizable majority in the House, and we're still on the path for a majority in the Senate.'
He noted that the GOP was likely to pick up two or three Senate seats, by his estimates, rather than the 54-or-more-seat majority he had hoped for.

PROJECTION: Another GOP pickup opportunity squashed in Illinois
Democratic Rep. Sean Casten has held onto his seat in Illinois district, the AP projects, despite Republicans hoping they could push him out of the job amid a massive 'red tsunami.'
His seat representing Chicago's western suburbs was only narrowly blue, rated D+4 on the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
It's amid a wider picture that shows Republicans' promise of a decisive GOP victory may have dissipated, though it's still likely they'll retake the House overall.
04:59
PROJECTION: Trump-backed Ted Budd wins North Carolina Senate seat
House GOP Rep. Ted Budd, who won his Senate primary to replace outgoing Sen. Richard Burr, has now won his general election according to Associated Press.
He defeated former North Carolina state Supreme Court Justice Cheri Beasley. If she had won Beasley would have been the first black woman elected to statewide federal office in North Carolina.
04:46
PROJECTION: New Hampshire Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan beats Trump-aligned GOP rival
New Hampshire's incumbent Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan fended off a threat from Republican Don Bolduc to win a second term, the Associated Press projects.
The Granite State had been eyed by Republicans as a state they could potentially flip to the red column, but it became less likely after the state's mid-September GOP primary, when Republican voters narrowly chose Bolduc - an election denier - over the president of the New Hampshire state Senate, Chuck Morse.
In the seven weeks left until election day, Bolduc flip-flopped between calling President Joe Biden the 'legitimate president' and back-pedaling to embrace the so-called 'big lie.'
Donald Trump stayed out of the race until the very end - endorsing Bolduc on Halloween, just eight days before Election Day.
Hassan was among the Democrats President Joe Biden called to congratulate Tuesday night. Trump, on the other hand, said Bolduc's loss was due to him not being Trumpy enough.
'Don Bolduc was a very nice guy, but he lost tonight when he disavowed, after his big primary win, his longstanding stance on Election Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Primary. Had he stayed strong and true, he would have won, easily. Lessons Learned!!!' Trump posted to Truth Social.

South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham: 'Definitely' not an overwhelming Republican victory tonight
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham joined NBC's live television coverage of the midterms on Tuesday night as election results so far have shown that projections of a blowout GOP victory across the board appear overstated.
'Definitely not a Republican wave, that’s for darn sure,' Graham said.
His South Carolina Senate colleague, GOP Sen. Tim Scott, won his re-election bid tonight.

PROJECTION: Moderate Democrat who stood up to Progressive Caucus wins re-election
Moderate Democratic Rep. Josh Gotteimer of New Jersey's 5th Congressional District won his re-election bid against a Republican challenger, marking one more safe seat for the left that the GOP had hoped to flip at the beginning of the night.
Gottheimer led a small group of fellow Democrats late last year in forcing the party to decouple its $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal, which passed, from the $3.5 trillion progressive-backed Build Back Better bill - which didn't.
it's yet another sign that Republican hopes of a 'red tsunami' may have been overblown as the results so far have shown both sides mostly retaining their positions, save for three seats that shifted from Democrat to GOP.
Republican venture capitalist and Hillbilly Elegy author JD Vance has bested Democratic House Rep. Tim Ryan to win the open Senate seat being vacated by retiring GOP Rep. Rob Portman in Ohio.
The state, which went to Donald Trump by eight points in 2020, was widely seen as likely to stay red. But Ryan's significant momentum with working class whites and other groups abandoned by the larger Democratic Party made it an unexpectedly close race.
Vance won in the end, after squeezing through a crowded GOP primary thanks to Trump's endorsement.
His victory does not significantly shift the expected outcome of the race, but it's one less upset opportunity for Democrats who were hopeful for a surprise sweep to increase their Senate majority.

PROJECTION: Stacey Abrams calls Brian Kemp to concede defeat in Georgia
Democrat Stacey Abrams has called Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to concede, according to the Atlanta Courier Journal, signaling the end of their rematch of 2018's close race.
Abrams had run a close race but never quite managed to surpass Kemp in pre-Election Day polls.

PROJECTION: January 6 committee member Rep. Elaine Luria loses to Republican challenger
Virginia Rep. Elaine Luria has lost her re-election bid to Republican Jen Kiggans, AP projected.
Luria, a Navy veteran, had been among the most vulnerable Democrats of the 2022 election cycle.
She's the second member of the January 6 committee to lose re-election, after Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney lost her August primary to a Donald Trump-backed challenger.

Jill Biden is racking up a strong track record this election night.
Two of the Democrats she campaigned for have won their races. Both were in competitive contests.
The Associated Press has called victories for Seth Magaziner in a Rhode Island House race and for Rep. Jennifer Wexton, who was running for re-election in Viriginia.
Several Democratic candidates kept President Joe Biden at an arms' distance due to his low approval ratings but the first lady proved a popular surrogate on the campaign trail.
Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott has defeated Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke, AP has projected.
O'Rourke, a former 2020 presidential contender, saw brief momentum in the race in the wake of the tragic mass shooting at Uvalde Elementary School and after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
That had since dissipated, more recent pre-Election Day polls had shown.

PROJECTION: Vulnerable Virginia Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger defeats Trump-backed challenger
Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Virginia Democrat who represents part of Washington, DC's suburbs in the House of Representatives, fended off a Donald Trump-backed challenger, AP projects.
Spanberger, a former CIA officer, flipped Virginia's 7th Congressional from red to blue in 2018.
She was up against Republican Yesli Vega, whose candidacy has attracted millions in GOP donations and national endorsements.
Spanberger's victory suggests the GOP may not see the partisan blowout its members were hoping for after tonight's vote tallies. But with dozens of races still to be called, it's still uncertain where the chips will fall.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul holds wide lead over Republican challenger despite close pre-election polls
New York's Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul has nearly twice as many votes as her Republican challenger, as the upstate moderate seeks her first full term in Albany.
She's being challenged from the right by Rep. Lee Zeldin, a House Republican representing parts of Long Island who voted to overturn President Joe Biden's 2020 electoral victory.
Hochul was seen as a safe candidate until Zeldin made significant gains in pre-Election Day polls in recent days. The tightening race attracted national players on both sides to campaign in the race.
Joe Biden and Barack Obama campaigned for Hochul in the final sprint of the race, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis stumped for Zeldin in the Empire State.

PROJECTION: Trump-backed Republican Eric Schmitt wins Missouri Senate seat
Missouri's Republican attorney general Eric Schmitt won an expected victory to replace retiring GOP Senator Roy Blunt, AP projects.
He was up against Trudy Busch-Valentine, a retired nurse and heiress to the Anheuser-Busch fortune.
Schmitt scored an endorsement from Donald Trump after the former president simply endorsed 'Eric' in the primary, which could have referred to him or challenger Eric Greitens.

Biden calls first batch of Democratic midterm winners
The White House said just before 10 p.m. ET Tuesday night that President Joe Biden was placing calls to Democrats who were victorious in their midterm races.
'This evening, the President has made congratulatory calls to Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey, Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee, Senator-elect Peter Welch, Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester, Colorado Governor Jared Polis, Representative Abigail Spanberger, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer,' the White House said.
Biden placed his call to Spanberger, who represents an important Virginia swing district, before her race had been called by the Associated Press or CNN.
NBC News was first out of the gate to call the race for Spanberger, who is running against Republican Yesli Vega. CNN has since called the race for the Democrat.
The other Democratic winners were expected.

PROJECTION: Colorado Democrat Sen. Michael Bennet fends off Republican challenger
Colorado Democrat Senator Michael Bennet has won re-election, AP projects, defeating a challenge from Republican construction executive Joe O'Dea.
O'Dea has gone out of his way to shun Donald Trump in his bid to appeal to Colorado's moderate voters. His candidacy attracted hope from the Republican establishment, which had hoped he could be a roadmap for a post-Trump GOP future.
Trump himself actively criticized O'Dea's candidacy after the now-former Senate hopeful pledged to 'actively' campaign against the ex-president if he announced a 2024 bid.

GOP New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu says state's midterm turnout will 'break records'
Fresh off his re-election victory on Tuesday night, New Hampshire Republican Governor Chris Sununu told NBC in a television interview that his state likely shattered previous midterm election turnout.
'We're definitely going to break records for a midterm turnout here in New Hampshire,' he said.
The governor, who's been floated as a potential 2024 contender, said Americans were voting with their concerns about the economy in mind.
'Folks are feeling a pinch at their homes when they balance a checkbook, trying to just pay a mortgage and especially in New England, where energy prices are so high, fuel prices are high, it's getting colder, people are really feeling that double pinch that double whammy, and they want to change,' Sununu said.

Arizona judge denies Republicans' request to extend Maricopa County poll hours
An Arizona judge has denied Republicans' bid to extend voting hours in Phoenix-anchored Maricopa County.
The populous county, which can prove decisive in the battleground state, saw technical issues plaguing voting machines at 60 of its more than 200 voting centers. The problems have since been fixed, but it hasn't stopped Republican candidates Kari Lake and Blake Masters from casting doubt on the state's election count.
Election officials activated existing contingency plans in the interim to ensure voting could go on.
The judge said there was no evidence that anyone was denied the right to cast a ballot on Tuesday.

Polls close in Nevada, Utah and Montana
Polls have closed in Nevada, Utah and Montana as of 10pm on the East Coast.
Nevada presents another Senate pickup opportunity for Republicans, who believe they can unseat freshman Democrat Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto. She's been challenged by Donald Trump-backed Republican Adam Laxalt.
Laxalt's grandfather had also been a senator from Nevada.
In Utah, Democrats and Independents have come together in an unprecedented effort to back former CIA officer Evan McMullin. The third-party candidate is vying to unseat pro-Trump GOP Senator Mike Lee.

Brian Kemp leads Stacey Abrams in Georgia with more than 60% of the vote counted
Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is less than 10 points ahead of Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams with more than 60 percent of the vote counted.
Kemp narrowly defeated Abrams to take the governor's mansion in 2018, when he ran the state's elections as its secretary of state.
Abrams had cast doubt on the legitimacy of her 2018 loss, comments that have come back to bite her in the 2022 cycle as her critics use them as a political cudgel.
Kemp easily won his Republican primary over the summer despite being faced with a Donald Trump-backed challenger, because of the ex-president's anger at Kemp refusing to say the 2020 election was rigged in Georgia.

PROJECTION: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wins re-election in New York City
Progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez comfortably sailed to victory in her deep-blue 14th Congressional District, AP projects.
Ocasio-Cortez was not seen as having any serious challengers after rising to national prominence by unseating longtime moderate Democratic Rep. Joe Crowley in 2018.
She's won nearly 75 percent more of the vote than her MAGA Republican candidate, Tina Forte.

No big surprises in tonight's election results so far
The first batches of results from more than 500 races across the country are not yielding any major surprises as of 9:30pm ET, but there's still a long way to go.
For the most part, Republican seats stayed red while Democrats have defended most of theirs.
Just two seats have flipped in the GOP's favor so far - Florida's 7th and 13th Congressional Districts, which were widely expected to be losses for Democrats.
Some of the night's biggest races - such as those in Georgia, Arizona and Pennsylvania - may not even see their results in tonight.

He's running against House Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist, who previously served as the Sunshine State's governor as a Republican.
DeSantis has far out-raised Crist and every other gubernatorial candidate in the country, ending the election cycle with roughly $200 million in donations. It's a war chest that's more on par with a national candidate than a state hopeful - and DeSantis has been floated as a potential 2024 candidate.
As of 7:30pm ET, nearly half the votes are in and DeSantis is nearly 10 points ahead of Crist.

He's vowed to open serious investigations into the scientist if Republicans win the Senate majority.

Former Indiana state lawmaker Erin Houchin triumphed in her state, while Rep. Hal Rogers, who has been in the House since 1981, kept control of his seat in Kentucky.

Biden's ex-press secretary Jen Psaki sets low expectations for her party
Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tempered expectations for Democrats' midterm performance late on Tuesday afternoon.
The ex-Biden official pointed out that both of her boss's predecessors saw big losses in their first midterm elections, but went on to win a second term - though even Biden has yet to say for sure if he's going to run.
'No races has been called yet and they won’t be for a while, but just some facts for your back pocket,' Psaki wrote on Twitter.
'Bill Clinton lost 54 House seats in 1994, Barack Obama lost 63 in 2010 and both went on to win re-election.'

Visibly animated Trump tells Arizona voters there are 'bad things' going on
Donald Trump released a video on his Truth Social app aiming to cast doubt on how Arizona is conducting its elections.
It comes after technical issues were experienced by some vote machines in roughly 20 percent of Phoenix-anchored Maricopa County. He similarly accused Arizona's elections of being rigged when he narrowly lost the state to Joe Biden in 2020.
The former president appeared as though he could not stand still throughout the 50-second clip.
'To the great people of Arizona, Maricopa County in particular, don't leave your line, stay where you are. They say that the machines aren't working. They say that they're running out of paper in different locations throughout different states. There's a lot of bad things going on. Stay on line, do not leave,' the former president said.
'I know you don't want to be there as long as they're going to try and force you, they want to delay you out of voting. And you cannot let them delay you out of voting.'

Ohio election officials blast 'disinformation' on voting machine breakdowns
The official Twitter account of Ohio's secretary of state office is rooting out misleading narratives in real time on Tuesday.
The secretary of state's office flagged a post accompanied by a photo of a sheriff's vehicle claiming there was 'intimidation at the polls' and adding: 'Machines keep breaking down etc. Yes, the Sheriff was called.'
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose responded, 'This is disinformation and not true. Montgomery County Board of Elections reports all voting machines are working properly. They summoned the Sheriff because an isolated instance of an individual harassing a poll worker. The situation has been peacefully resolved.'

Asked if she believes Democrats can keep the House despite steep odds, the California lawmaker said: 'I do.'

Asked if she'd continue to serve if Democrats were in the minority, the veteran politician replied, 'That's a conversation for another day.'
Court orders six Georgia voting centers to stay open past scheduled closing time
Six of Georgia's 2,600 polling locations have been ordered by a court to stay ipen past their scheduled 7pm ET closing time, the state's acting top election official said.
Georgia's acting deputy secretary of state, Gabriel Sterling, said two locations north of Atlanta will stay open until 7:45pm ET and two more in the city will close within the same 10-minute time frame, according to CNN.
He told the media earlier today that Georgia's turnout has been steady and the election uneventful, calling it 'stupendously boring.'
An NBC News exit poll found that a majority of voters disapprove of President Joe Biden's job leading the United States and 46 percent said his policies are hurting the country.
Just over a third of the critical Independent voter bloc said they think Biden's policies are helping.
Biden's low approval ratings for most of his term have been an albatross for vulnerable Democrats.
Like CNN's exit polling, NBC found that inflation comes out on top of issues voters are concerned about with 32 percent, followed by 27 percent for abortion.

First polls close in Indiana and Kentucky as Election Day begins to wrap up
Some districts in Indiana and Kentucky have closed their polling places as of 6pm ET, and the first projected winners will start coming in soon. There are 11 House seats up for grabs across both states combined.
Early results from these races may determine momentum, but won't be enough for a clear picture on where the night is heading.
Indiana GOP Senator Todd Young's race against Democrat challenger has largely been kept out of the spotlight, mostly because Young's seat is considered safe.
Donald Trump won the state by 16 points over Joe Biden in 2020.
Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind) looks on during a roundtable meeting with Jennifer-Ruth Green, the Republican candidate for Indiana's 1st Congressional District and an U.S. Air Force veteran, Utah Rep. Burgess Owens and business owners Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, in Gary, Indiana

EXIT POLLS: Majority of voters say Donald Trump was not a factor for how their ballots were cast
More than half of Americans who cast midterm ballots nationwide told exit pollsters that Donald Trump was not a factor in how they voted, CNN has reported.
That could be a good sign for Republicans in vulnerable areas if it means Democrat efforts to tie moderate GOPers to 'MAGA extremists' have failed.
Fifty-four percent of voters polled said Trump was not a factor. Just 16 percent said they voted to support him, while 28 percent said they voted to oppose the former president.
Trump has played a heavy hand in the midterms this cycle, endorsing more than 300 candidates across local, state and federal races.
Asked about his potential 2024 candidacy, Trump replied: 'I think Tuesday (Nov. 15) will be a very exciting day for a lot of people, and I look forward to seeing you at Mar-a-Lago.'

Virginia’s three canaries in the House Democratic coal mine
While election officials have tempered expectations for a full picture of midterm results tonight, two races in Virginia could be early warning signs for whether projections that have spelled doom for Democrats are likely to manifest.
The state’s polling places begin to close at 7pm ET, and generally produce results within hours.
If Democrats lose Rep. Elaine Luria’s 2nd Congressional District and Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s 7th – both close races – it could spell bad news for vulnerable Democrats in other moderate districts.
It would foreshadow even greater political peril if Republicans manage to unseat Rep. Jennifer Wexton in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, whose Cook Political Rating is D+6.
Luria and Spanberger both flipped their seats from red to blue and have touted themselves as moderates who reach across the aisle. But it remains to be seen whether they will be victims of nationwide discontent over Democrats’ handling of the economy and rising crime rates.

Republicans projected to flip Democratic Senate seats in Arizona, Nevada and Georgia
The latest projections from RealClearPolitics' analysis of midterm polls forecasts Republican pickups in Arizona, Nevada and Georgia.
All three states have Democratic incumbents who are being challenged by Republicans backed by Donald Trump.
President Joe Biden expressed hope that his party could hold onto the Senate in comments to reporters on Monday night.
Below is DailyMail.com's latest graph forecasting how the Senate will likely look next year:
The economy remains a top concern for American voters across the country, according to preliminary exit results published by CNN.
About a third of people polled said inflation was their biggest issue, followed by just over a quarter who named abortion as their main concern.
Those same voters, for the most part, are also unhappy with President Joe Biden's stewardship of the United States and hold him largely responsible for the country's issues.
It could be a bad sign for incumbent Democrats in tight races where discontent over nationwide issues could be taken out on their seats at the ballot box.

Trump casts doubt on battleground election results hours before polls close
Donald Trump has made a series of posts on his Truth Social app casting doubt on the 2022 election results in Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
‘People of Arizona: Don’t get out of line until you cast your vote. They are trying to steal the election with bad Machines and DELAY. Don’t let it happen!’ Trump wrote.
He said there was a ‘REALLY BAD’ absentee ballot situation in Detroit and called on people to protest.
The ex-president also took aim at Pennsylvania officials’ warning of delayed results, ‘Pennsylvania just announced that it could take days to determine the winner. This is outrageous!’
The vote count got off to a bumpy start in the battleground state of Arizona, with 20 percent of voting machines in its most populous county hitting technical snags.
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates announced on Tuesday morning that machines were malfunctioning at about a fifth of their 223 polling places.
He said they were trying to fix it ‘as quickly as possible’ in a video posted to Twitter and explained the functioning backup system to ensure all votes are counted.
Still, that has not stopped some Republicans from using the malfunctions to sow doubt in the county’s election security. In a race expected to be as tight as Arizona’s, the Phoenix-anchored county will be pivotal to either side’s victory.

Biden a no-show ahead of Democrats’ expected shellacking
The White House called a lid before noon on Tuesday, meaning it’s highly unlikely that President Joe Biden will be heard from at all as polls wrap and the Election Day results gradually become clear as the night goes on.
It appears that he’s bucking the traditional post-midterms press conference that presidents usually give as well.
Biden’s apparent lack of enthusiasm to engage over the vote tonight follows months of wariness of campaigning in critical battleground states like Arizona and Nevada.

Biden expressed hope yesterday that Democrats could hold onto the Senate, likely propelled by fears over the state of democracy and abortion rights, and admitted it would be ‘more difficult’ to govern with Republican Congressional majorities.
