A one-time friend of both accused rapist Danny Masterson and one of his alleged victims told a jury on Thursday that she was scared of testifying at the actor's rape trial.
Speaking from the witness stand at Los Angeles Superior Court, Rachel Smith said: 'I'm sad ... We were all friends and I don't know how things got here. It's surreal.'
Smith told the court she had an 'inseparable' friendship with Jane Doe 2, who earlier this week testified that Masterson had raped her twice - in the shower and in his bedroom - in 2003.
Not long after the alleged rape the woman confided in her best friend and fellow Scientologist Smith about her sexual encounter with the TV star, the court heard.
'She was quite confused. She just told me that she went over to his place and he was very demanding,' Smith added.
'She said she begged him not to have sex and the next thing she knew was it was really rough and violent, like a jackhammer. She was out of it.'
Accused rapist Danny Masterson is seen leaving the Los Angeles Superior courthouse with a family member after trial proceedings on Wednesday November 9
Earlier this week, one of Masterson's accusers, identified only as Jane Doe 2 (pictured) testified that the actor had raped her twice - in the shower and in his bedroom - in 2003
The alleged victim (pictured during her testimony on Wednesday) confided in friend Rachel Smith about the encounter at the time, claiming Masterson had become 'really rough and violent' after she begged him not to have sex, Smith told the jury on Thursday
Masterson, 46 - who has been free on $3.3million bail since his arrest in June 2020 - has pleaded not guilty to raping three women at his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003. He is facing a sentence of 45 years to life in prison if convicted.
His accusers - whom DailyMail.com is identifying only as Jane Does 1 through 3 - are all ex-Scientologists and are also suing the actor and the Church of Scientology in civil court, claiming they have been harassed and intimidated since reporting him to police.
Masterson - who starred on That '70s Show - showed up Thursday at the criminal court in downtown Los Angeles in a dark blue suit, white shirt and light blue tie.
After the 2003 alleged rape, Jane Doe 2's behavior changed, Smith told the court, saying she 'became erratic, more needy.'
'One day she showed up at my place, crying, at four in the morning. She became a handful.'
Her friendship with Jane Doe 2 ended soon after and it wasn't until 14 years later, in 2017, when she heard about the allegations leveled against Masterson, that she called her ex-best buddy up.
'I asked her, "Is that what you were talking about when we talked back then?" said Smith. 'She asked me to speak to the District Attorney's office.'
Smith said she did go on to talk to the prosecutor, who questioned her on the stand Thursday.
When Deputy DA Ariel Anson asked if she had 'any fears about testifying here today?' she answered: 'Yes.'
'Is that related to the Church of Scientology?' asked Anson.
'Yes,' said Smith again.
Under cross examination by defense attorney Philip Cohen, Smith admitted that after Jane Doe 2 told her about the alleged rape in 2003, she told the police that her 'takeaway at the time was not that Masterson had raped her.'
'That was from my state of mind at the time,' she added. 'Based on my upbringing (in Scientology), things like that did not happen.
'Danny was an old friend. He was a catch. I normalized it. They had a fling - and it turned out he used her. It was kind of douchey.
'I did not put it together at the time. It all went over my head.'
A fourth alleged victim of Danny Masterson took the stand on Wednesday and cried as she described the alleged rape. Masterson was dressed in a gray suit, gray shirt and blue tie at criminal court in downtown Los Angeles
Asked by Anson if her views on the alleged rape have now changed, Smith - who is no longer a Scientologist - replied: 'Yes.'
Smith was the prosecution's last witness, Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller told Judge Charlaine Olmedo at the end of Thursday's proceedings.
When the trial resumes Monday for a fifth week, it will be the defense's turn to present their case.
Masterson's legal team has not yet revealed whether the actor will take the stand.
On Wednesday, a fourth alleged victim of Masterson cried as she told a jury how she woke up to find him on top of her, having sex with her.
'He was rough…he was pounding,' said dark-haired actress identified as Jane Doe 4, whose alleged rape is not one of the three the Scientologist TV star is charged with.
'I could not really move or say anything,' she added.
After passing out, she told Masterson's rape trial, she woke up naked to find him smiling at her.
'He was just smiling at me in a way that was confusing to me – like we were on a date or something sweet.'

Jane Doe 4 told jurors that she met Masterson when the two had acting roles in a low-budget movie being filmed in LA in 1996.
Sometimes between scenes, she would catch him staring at her intently.
'There was a harshness, coldness that left me feeling intimidated when he looked at me that way,' she said.
At the wrap party at La Poubelle restaurant to mark the end of the movie, she had a couple of drinks with Masterson and other cast and crew members, she recalled.
'He was staring at me the whole night – it was unsettling,' said Jane Doe 4 who later went to an after-party at his then home on Laurel Canyon where she had 'maybe three drinks' and smoked some marijuana.
When Masterson suggested the party guests should crash at his house, she and one of the other actors on the movie went to sleep in a spare room, he on the bed and she on the floor, she told the court.
'I felt tired…but I was conscious and aware' before going to sleep, said Jane Doe 4 who added that she suddenly awoke to find Masterson 'trying to pull me up and out of the room.
'He was saying something about (the other actor in the room) taking advantage of me. I kicked him away and was pushing him off…and told him I wanted to go to sleep.
'But he was adamant about me leaving the room. He was demanding and insisting that I go. He said, ''You're getting out of here, come with me.'''
Jane Doe #1 burst into tears as she haltingly recounted the night in September 2002 when she woke to find Masterson allegedly penetrating her anally
She told jurors that she passed out and when she came to for a couple of seconds, Masterson 'had his arms around my waist, dragging me down a hallway.'
She blacked out again, and 'when I became conscious again, he (Masterson) was having sex with me. I woke up on my back in a bed and he was on top of me. He was penetrating me vaginally with his penis.'
Her voice quavering, she added, 'He was rough and I just remember trying to take in what was happening. I was pretty disoriented. I don't think I was conscious for very long.
'He was pounding. I could not really move or say anything. I was confused and honestly I don't think I could have had any coherent thoughts.'
Jane Doe 4 said that after passing out again, 'I woke up in the morning and I was looking around the room, taking it all in.

'Danny woke up and he was just smiling at me in a way that was confusing to me – like we were on a date or something sweet.'
After putting on her clothes that were scattered around the room, she went on, 'I completely shut down, just got dressed and left the room. I didn't know what to make off the situation. I didn't think he even liked me.'
She wept as she added, 'I felt a deep shame and disrespected because I thought I was out with castmates and friends. I just did not think that was on the table. It was not for me. I was disturbed but I didn't know how to cope with it.'
When she got home that day, Jane Doe 4 said, 'I felt pretty physically ill as well as being sore and being kind of mentally incapable of dealing with any of it.
'My vagina was sore and so was my anus. The insides of my thighs were tender and bruised. I felt my whole body was in pain – like an incredible hangover, but extreme.'
She said the first person she talked to about the alleged rape was Jane Doe #2 –17 years later in 2013.
Jane Doe 4 told the court that after the alleged rape, she would occasionally run into Masterson in LA and 'I would find myself shaking.'
On one of these occasions – a mutual friend's housewarming party – she went to the bathroom and when she came out she found Masterson, 'blocking my exit and staring at me with what I felt was a threatening stare,' she said adding that she ducked past him and left the party.
Under questioning from Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller, Jane Doe 4 said that she met with Jane Doe 2 in New York in 2013 who 'told me that Danny Masterson raped her.'
Under questioning from Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller (pictured), Jane Doe 4 said, 'I understood it to be non-consensual but I had not categorized it as rape'
Contradicting what she said in earlier testimony, Jane Doe 4 said that at that 2013 meeting, she did not tell Jane Doe 2 that she too had been raped by Masterson.
She didn't reveal that till she sent a message to Jane Doe 2 in 2019 after reading about the alleged rape cases involving Jane Does 1 thru 3.
Jane Doe 4 told the jury that Masterson raped her a second time, about a month after the first. She said Masterson and a 'bunch of guys', including actor Scott Caan (pictured) showed up at her apartment where 'Danny got out and the others left'
Asked by DDA Mueller why it took her is long to go to the police and report him for the alleged rape in 1996, Jane Doe 4 said, 'I did not process it in 1996.
'I understood it to be non-consensual but I had not categorized it as rape.
'And when I heard about the case (involving Jane Doe 1 thru 3), I remember me hitting it fully and having to sit with that.'
When DDA Mueller asked her when she did finally got to the police in 2019, 'At that point in time did you have an understanding that what happened to you was rape?, she responded, 'Yes.'
Back on the witness stand later Wednesday, Jane Doe 4 told the jury that Masterson raped her a second time, about a month after the first. She said Masterson and a 'bunch of guys', including actor Scott Caan, showed up at her apartment where 'Danny got out and the others left.'
Since she had room-mates, she took him upstairs to her room where, she said, they talked and he gave her a drink from a flask he was carrying with him.
'I think it was whiskey – I just had a couple of swigs,' said Jane Doe 4 who added that she couldn't recall Masterson drinking from the flask.
Within 15-20 minutes she told the jury she was feeling 'extremely intoxicated – I recall pretty quickly becoming incoherent.
'We went from talking and it moved to him taking off my pants and him starting to have sex with me. 'I was telling him I didn't want to have sex and he was laughing and continuing on.
'I was telling him to stop and I also told that he didn't have a condom on – and he said, 'Diseases are in the mind.'
She said that she went 'completely unconscious' and I didn't remember anything till the next morning when Masterson woke her up 'and asked me to give him a ride to his baseball game.' She told jurors that when she woke she feeling 'shaky and hungover'. Her vagina and anus hurt and 'I was pretty out of it.'
Masterson played wise-cracking Steven Hyde on That '70s Show from 1998 to 2006
But she still took him to the baseball game. Under cross examination from Masterson's attorney, Philip Cohen, Jane Doe 4 – who is not a Scientologist – admitted that she told cops she hadn't thought 'one single bit' about either alleged rape till they interviewed her in 2019.
'But it was more that I had not processed it,' she added. 'There were multiple times it came to mind.'
She admitted telling police and the DA that she was 'really drunk' during the first incident.
And when Cohen asked her if she told the DA that 'sex kind of happens when people are drinking,' she said, 'That's how I dealt with what happened in my mind.'
At Cohen's suggestion that she and Masterson read together for a new movie and drove to auditions together, Jane Doe 4 said, 'He did drive me to one audition.'
When Cohen asked Jane Doe #4 Thursday if 'your body was shaking' when she invited Masterson into her apartment before the second alleged rape, she answered, 'I don't have a shake meter…..but I felt unnerved. I remember feeling confused and uncomfortable.'
