A heroic Georgia man stepped into action when he heard a child screaming, holding an adult suspect at gunpoint until cops arrived at the scene.

Kelcey Willis was getting his oil changed at the Walmart in Warner Robins, Georgia on November 6 when he caught his first glimpse of the apparent kidnapping.

He followed the child's cries into the woods nearby, where he saw Haimnarine Doobay, 67, choking the kid.

'As buddy was filling us in to get our oil change, we heard a little kid screaming,' Willis recounted to WGTX. 'So we turned to the corner down there, and we see him getting snatched out the car, and the man was taking him behind the building.'

At first, Willis said, he thought the man was just taking the young boy to the bathroom 'but it took him way too long to come back from behind the building.'

That is when, he said, he decided to act.

'The screaming kept getting louder and louder and that didn't sit right with us,' Willis said, adding he heard the child screaming "Please don't beat me."

'My first instinct was to grab my gun and go get that kid out the woods.'

The Warner Robins Police Department said he held the suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived on the scene.

Doobay was then arrested and charged with aggravated assault and cruelty toward a child. Though police originally categorized the crime as a kidnapping, they are no longer categorizing the situation as that after they determined the child was related to the 67-year-old man.

The young child, meanwhile, was brought to the Houston County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Department to receive attention and care.

Willis now says he fears if he had not acted that day 'the kid would probably be dead.

'He would've choked the child cold,' Willis explained, adding: 'Once we got the kid out of the woods, he said the man was going to beat him and leave him for the animals.'
