Elderly man dies after 'being hit in the head with a bat' during an argument with his neighbor

A 74-year-old California man has died after being hit in the head with a bat during a dispute with his neighbor.

David Stanley was found dead on the porch of his Whittier, California home on Saturday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a release.

Deputies were called to the home in the 16100 block of Marlinton Drive around 8:45p.m. for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Stanley's adult son told deputies that he heard a disturbance and when he went to investigate, he found his father collapsed on the porch.

It was reported that Stanley and the neighbor had been arguing. The neighbor, who authorities say is in his 20s, has been questioned but no charges had been issued as of Monday afternoon.

When deputies arrived on the house on Saturday night, they found Stanley suffering from apparent head trauma. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.  

'The victim was discovered by his adult son, who heard a disturbance on the porch and went outside to investigate. 

It was reported that the victim was arguing with a neighbor' before the disturbance, according to the sheriff's department release. 

It's not clear what the argument was about or the circumstances that led to the assault, but ABC7 reported that Stanley has been struck in the head with a baseball bat. 

Deputies described the neighbor as a 'suspect' who is 'in custody' and who was being interviewed as part of their ongoing investigation.
