Stony-faced Lauren Hutton is seen running errands in LA ahead of 79th birthday

Hollywood beauty icon Lauren Hutton appeared grumpy and out of sorts during a rare public sighting in Los Angeles, just a few days before her 79th birthday. 

Hutton celebrates the milestone on Thursday November 17 - but just two days earlier, the former supermodel and actress was seen looking stony-faced while shopping at her local grocery store.

Exclusive DailyMail.com show the film and TV star stepping out in a yellow sweatshirt that she paired with a navy skirt over black leggings and socks and jelly sandals. 

She was carrying a wicker purse and had her hair tied up in a messy bun.

Hutton has continued to land modeling campaigns in recent years despite her age, even posing topless for Harper's Bazaar May issue earlier this year.  

Just last week the American Gigolo star, who is still very involved in the beauty and skincare business, gave an interview in which she discussed her philosophies about growing older gracefully. 

'Whether it's beauty or fashion, there's an obsession with youth. But if we're lucky, we're all going to get old,' she told beauty publication Byrdie. 

'I think it's time to realize that anti-aging is an old-fashioned term.'

Hutton's career took off after she moved to New York City in the 1960s, where she modeled for luxury brands such as Dior and Chanel

She explained that there was plenty of 'research that shows that our attitudes have so much to do with how we age,' and that we should not stress and worry about a particular wrinkle or spot. 

Instead, she said, the main focus should be, 'on taking good care of our skin and ourselves, and the industry can help shift that conversation for the future.' 

Hutton, who has been modeling in the industry for nearly six decades, moved to New York City in the 1960s, where she modeled for luxury brands such as Dior and Chanel. 

Before signing a contract with Revlon in 1973 when she was near 30, she had only been making around $50 a week through other modeling work.

Earlier this month she expressed to beauty tabloid, Byrdie, that there should be more positivity when it comes to the term 'aging'; seen last month in October in Los Angeles 

Hutton made her acting debut in the 1968 movie classic Paper Lion opposite Alan Alda. 

She went on to star in a string of other hits including The Gambler (1974) and American Gigolo (1980) alongside Richard Gere. 

While she has never been married, Hutton was known to have had high profile relationships at the height of her fame with fellow celebrities including, Malcolm McLaren, Burt Reynolds, Lou Adler, Steve McQueen, and Ryan O'Neal.
