A man has died in a freak climbing accident after being struck by a falling rock in NSW's Blue Mountains region.
The climber in his 30s was hit by the 30cm rock during a climb known as 'Sweet Dreams' at the mountain range west of Sydney at around 12.30pm on Sunday.
The man had been rock climbing with a friend who was able to call for help.

'Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command and Police Rescue attended and were told the climber had been struck by a falling rock,' a NSW Police statement said.
'The man was treated by NSW Ambulance Special Operations Team paramedics (but he) died at the scene.'
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, had rushed to Sublime Point Road in Leura, about a two hour drive west of Sydney.
Working in strong winds, officers managed to abseil down the cliff face to get to the man, who was on a ledge.

He was treated at the scene but the paramedics were unable to save him after he went into cardiac arrest.

A crime scene has been established with a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
