Princess of Wales wears a brooch once owned by Princess Diana
Kate Middleton's feather brooch with a dangling emerald gem appears to be a nod to her title as Princess of Wales which was gifted to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, when she married King Charles in 1981.
The brooch first entered the Royal Family in 1863 when King Edward VII married Princess Alexandra of Denmark. The union saw Princess Alexandra showered with gifts - including the feather brooch from the Ladies of North Wales.
The brooch contains 18 Round Cut diamonds with small emeralds that surround the Prince of Wales feathers symbol.
Princess Diana first debuted the brooch as a pendant at the Royal Opera House in 1982. She later wore the pendant with its attached emerald drop during a royal tour of Austria in 1986.

Which jewels will the Queen Consort and Princess of Wales choose?
As the Queen Consort and the Princess of Wales gear up to welcome president Cyril Ramaphosa and his wife Dr Tshepo Motsepe, all eyes will be on their outfits - and tiaras - of choice.
Whereas the Queen Consort has opted to wear her apparent favourite Greville Tiara at least eight times since she married King Charles, the Princess of Wales appears to favour the Lover's Knot Tiara, which she has worn to at least two state banquets since 2018.
Here, FEMAIL took a look at some of the Queen Consort and Princess of Wales's favourite tiaras which may make an appearance at tonight's state banquet...

What can guests expect from tonight's state banquet?
Ahead of the state banquet which will be held at Buckingham Palace tonight to welcome the South African president, the Royal Family gave a sneak peek at the exquisite menu.
Among the ingredients being prepped in the kitchen of the Palace were carrots, tomatoes and rainbow chard.
In a reel shared on the Royal Family's official Instagram account, chefs were seen preparing garnishes made to look like the South African national flower, Protea.
The caption explained the garnish, which was sprayed with edible paint, was created out of sugar and will be served with petit fours and coffee at the end of the meal.
While the Royal Family gets started on its busy week in the UK, there has been some confusion across the pond about the former members of The Firm who now dwell in California.
Meghan Markle had been announced to appear on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show in an apparent mix-up by TV network NBC.
In a statement on the network's website, it was claimed the Duchess of Cambridge would appear on the entertainment show on December 7 - but this claim was quickly disputed by Meghan's pal Omid Scobie.
The journalist took to Twitter to confirm Meghan would NOT be appearing on Jimmy Fallon's show and that someone at NBC 'didn't get the memo'.
NBC later told dailymail.com the announcement was made in error, and confirmed the Duchess was not scheduled to appear.
Welcome to FEMAIL's live coverage of King Charles's busy day as he makes history hosting his first state visit since ascending the throne.
