Madison Cawthorn says American men are 'soft metrosexuals' in one of his final speeches in Congress

Outgoing GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn claimed American men are being 'taught' to be 'soft metrosexuals' during one of his final appearances in Congress after being forced out by his fellow Republicans earlier this year.

The 27-year-old freshman congressman from North Carolina lost his primary over the summer to state senator Charles Edwards, who was backed by members of Cawthorn's own state Congressional delegation.

Long known for making outlandish statements and social media posts emphasizing conservative family and social values, Cawthorn's campaign was marked by scandal after scandal that saw his rising GOP star snuffed out.

But it's clear that he intends to go out the door unfazed and holding on tight to his hyper-masculine, traditional brand - as evidenced by his speech on the House floor Wednesday.

'It used to be a rite of passage in this country for young men to be punched in the face when they did something stupid,' the minute-long address began.

He claimed US society no longer believed in 'growing through adversity.'

'America is weak. Her sons are sickly and her daughters are decrepit. Our country now faces the consequences of enabling a participation trophy society,' the young firebrand said.

'Our young men are taught that weakness is strength, that delicacy is desirable, and that being a soft metrosexual is more valuable than training the mind body and soul.'

Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines 'metrosexual' as 'a usually urban heterosexual male given to enhancing his personal appearance by fastidious grooming, beauty treatments, and fashionable clothes.'

Continuing on with his dramatic flair, Cawthorn continued: 'Social media has weakened us, siphoning our men of their will to fight, to rise in a noble manner, square their jaws, and charge once more to the breach of light to defend what they love.'

'So on this precipice of disaster, I ask the young men in this nation a question - will you sit behind the screen while the story tales of your forefathers become myth? Or will you stand resolute against the dying light of America's Golden Age,' Cawthorn said.

'Will you reclaim your masculinity, will become a man to be feared, to be respected to be looked up to, or will you let this nation's next generation be its final generation?'

Cawthorn's brief but bombastic career in the House reached a climax - so to speak - when he angered the GOP ranks with claims that senior Republicans had invited him to cocaine-fueled orgies.

His scandal-plagued tenure in the House is marked by a number of embarrassing revelations, including photos that emerged of himself wearing women's lingerie. Cawthorn has insisted that it was part of a party game on a cruise

The lawmaker never named names but it was enough for a personal warning from House GOP Leader McCarthy.

But the drama didn't end there.

During his brief political life so far, Cawthorn has fielded sexual harassment claims - which he denies - and has been stopped by police for vehicular infractions multiple times.

He's also twice been stopped at the airport for having a gun in his carry-on luggage.

Cawthorn was forced to answer for his hard-partying past as well - including a photo of himself looking dazed while dressed in women's lingerie.

He was further embarrassed by a video of himself, naked, appearing to mimic a sex act on another man.

Cawthorn's two years in Congress also saw him get married and divorced in the span of eight months.
