Royal Family news LIVE: William and Kate land in Boston for a three-day visit to the US

On Thursday, William and Kate will visit Greentown Labs, a tech hub which has been nurturing climate pioneers for more than a decade.

Greentown is believed to be the largest climate technology start-up incubator in North America, having supported more than 500 companies, since founded in 2011, that have created more than 9,000 jobs and raised more than four billion dollars in funding.

They will also tour Roca, a non-profit organization focusing on young people at risk of becoming involved in urban violence.

The couple will meet with leaders of the organization to learn about their intervention model and spend time with women in the young mothers’ program, current members and alumni of the young men’s program.

Kate and William stood for the national anthem The Star Spangled Banner which was belted out by a semi-finalist of season 10 of the reality TV series The Voice.

But later the royal couple were subject to small pockets of boos around the arena when they were introduced by a stadium announcer and shown on the big screen.  

The Boston Celtics' name was inspired by the Original Celtics, a well-known basketball team that had been created by Irish immigrants in New York earlier in the 20th century, before folding in 1930.

Other fans in the crowd could be heard loudly cheering 'USA, USA' when the Prince and Princess appeared on the screens in the center above the court.

The royal couple was seen cheering the high-scoring game and clapping points as the packed crowd ramped up the atmosphere for the seventeen-time World Champions took on the Miami Heat in downtown Boston.

The Prince and Princess of Wales sat court side to watch an NBA game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat at the end of the first day of their visit to the US.

After the second quarter with the Celtics game tied 47 all William and Kate watched as the Celtics honored their long standing tradition of recognizing a 'Hero Among Us', heralding individuals working to positively impact the community.

Ollie Perrault, a 15-year-old climate activist, now the founder and director of Youth Climate Action Now, met the royal pair after being cheered by the local crowd for her work as a leading member of the Youth Climate Leadership Program since she was 11.

The Prince and Princess of Wales will attend the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Boston on December 2.

With their three-day visit to Boston, focused on Prince William's initiative to find the environmental entrepreneurs of a new generation, supplemented with trips to an anti-poverty program, child development researchers and local flood defenses, the couple hope to demonstrate that they aren't the last remnants of a dying institution.

Instead, Americans will see the younger face of a monarchy that is tackling important issues as it seeks to remain relevant in modern, multicultural Britain.

The Royal couple arrived in Boston on Wednesday. 

Their Royal Highnesses will be seated court side alongside Massachusetts Governor-Elect, Maura Healey, Celtics Legend Thomas 'Satch' Sanders, and the team's two principal owners and their wives.

They will also meet members of the Celtics family, including representatives of the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, which provides grassroots programming and strategic funding to local organizations serving at risk or at need populations. 

They will hear about the 'Curbside Care' mobile unit, which through a partnership with Boston Medical Center will provide comprehensive, streamlined care to mothers and infants in the first six weeks of life right at patient doorstep.

Prince and Princess of Wales toured Boston City Hall after their royal visit got off to a rainy, blustery start, but hundreds of people nonetheless waited in a steady downpour for the couple’s first public event at Boston City Hall, after arriving aboard a commercial British Airways flight.

A black reverend ambushed the Prince and Princess of Wales at their Earthshot launch event today by making a lecture about the 'legacy of colonialism and racism' - just hours after Buckingham Palace became embroiled in a furious race row when William's godmother was accused of making racist remarks at an event hosted by Queen Consort Camilla. 

Just minutes before William and Kate took to the stage at the Boston launch event of the Prince's Earthshot Prize, Reverend Mariama White-Hammond - the city's Chief of Environment, Energy, and Open Space - gave a strong speech in which she told the crowd to 'consider the legacy of colonialism and racism', particularly when it comes to their impact on climate change.

As the Prince and Princess Wales watched on from the wings, Reverend Hammond, who founded a youth organization focused on 'teaching the history of the Civil Rights Movement', said: 'On this day, I invite us all to consider the legacy of colonialism and racism.'

The Prince and Princess of Wales met Boston's Mayor Michelle Wu tonight at the start of their visit to Boston for the Earthshot Prize awards.

William and Kate were welcomed to City Hall by Ms Wu, the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants and the first Asian American to serve as Boston's mayor, as their first visit to the US since 2014 risked being overshadowed by a palace race row.

The heir to the throne thanked her and the people of Boston for supporting the awards. 'Thank You so much for your help,' he said. 'I think people are excited about the awards.'

Kate, 40, was wearing a Burberry dress, a coat by McQueen, and earrings by the sustainable brand Shyla London.

The royal couple also met Ms Wu's husband Connor Pewarski and their sons Blaise and Cass during a brief audience in the mayor's office. 

They appeared to be discussing their own children when the media were briefly allowed into the meeting.

Ms Wu, 37, a Democratic politician and lawyer, is a strong advocate of environmental policies.

She has campaigned for a municipal Green New Deal and signed an ordinance to divest the city council's investments from companies that derive more than 15 per cent of their revenue from fossil fuels.

She has also has announced plans for the city to spend $2 billion on school construction projects as part of the Green New Deal.

Hundreds of people are braving the rain as they wait for Prince William and Princess Kate.

The royal couple are due to arrive at Boston City Hall soon after landing at Logan International Airport a few hours ago.

Many have brought flowers and signs for William and Kate to greet them on their first visit to the States since 2014.

The Prince and Princess of Wales will arrive at City Hall in their first engagement in Boston ahead of the Earthshot Prize Awards later in the week. 

As Prince William prepares for his first trip to the US since 2014, his whirlwind three day visit is likely to be a far cry from his brother Prince Harry's day-to-day existence in California.

The Prince of Wales will be joined by Kate Middleton for the whirlwind three day trip to Boston today, where they will showcase issues including climate change, vulnerable young people, and green tech during a number of royal engagements. 

The last time the pair visited the country was to New York in December 2014 when Kate was pregnant with Princess Charlotte. They previously visited California at the end of a tour to Canada in 2011.

Kate Middleton paid tribute to her late mother-in-law by wearing a pair of stunning sapphire and diamond earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana as she arrived in America alongside Prince William on Wednesday.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were photographed stepping off a British Airways flight at Boston Logan International Airport at the start of their three-day whirlwind visit to the States - and Kate gave a sartorial nod to her husband's late mother by opting to sport a very sentimental piece of jewelry as she exited the plane.

The mother-of-three chose a glittering pair of two-tiered flower-shaped earrings, which were previously owned by Princess Diana. 

Diana was spotted wearing the earrings on several occasions before her death in 1997 - including when she attended the Met Gala in New York City in 1996 and during a visit to Canada in 1991. 

Now, they've been passed down to Kate, who previously wore them back in June when she attended Trooping the Colour as part of the Queen's birthday celebrations.

A small number of protestors have been asked to leave City Hall Plaza by police as crowds gather ahead of William and Kate arriving to meet Boston's mayor.

The demonstrators were reportedly shouting at the crowds assembled for the royal couple's visit.

Dozens more are waiting in the rain to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales as they arrive for their three-day trip to the US. 

Archie Mountbatten-Windsor has been pictured on a video call with his mother Meghan Markle and grandmother Doria Ragland, in a photo shared by an academic who claims she's writing a book on 'racism and the British Monarchy'.

Professor Duchess Harris, who specialises in American studies and feminism, shared a screengrab of the call to Twitter today, showing a three-year-old Archie sitting on his mother's lap in a rare appearance.

The caption read: 'I would love to invite you to be a part of my next book project: Racism and the British Monarchy: A Meghan Markle Reader. Co-Edited by Duchess Harris and Julie Schwietert Collazo.'

The British-born black charity founder who was asked by royal aide Lady Susan Hussey 'What part of Africa are you from?' said she was subjected to 'prolonged racism'.

Ngozi Fulani, who created Sistah Space, said she was offended by the remarks but did not want Lady Hussey - who is Prince William's godmother - to lose her job.

But that is what happened today as the remarks at the Buckingham Palace reception exploded in public.

Ngozi told the Mirror: 'What she did was racism. Through and through. It was prolonged racism.'

'Racist' comments made by Prince William's godmother are a 'disaster' for him and Kate as they head to the US today for their first trip in eight years, PR experts said today. 

The Prince of Wales today backed Lady Susan Hussey's decision to step down from the royal household after she allegedly refused to believe a black domestic abuse campaigner was British and asked her: 'What part of Africa are you from?' 

Publicist Mark Borkowski said the comments, which were made at a reception organised by Queen Consort Camilla, would serve as 'ammunition' for Meghan and Harry - who today released a polished trailer for the Invictus Games on the same day William and Kate began their US visit.  

Mr Borkowski told MailOnline: 'This is a PR disaster for the Royal Family and it is going to cause huge problems, especially at the start of William and Kate's US trip which will be dominated by a new racism row. They are flying into a perfect storm.'

The Prince and Princess of Wales arrived in Boston today at the start of a whirlwind three-day trip to the US.

The couple flew in on a commercial flight from London, landing pouring rain - even as a storm was brewing within the Monarchy back at home. 

William and Kate's arrival in Boston came amid a furious race row that was sparked by the Prince's own godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, a former lady-in-waiting to the late Queen. 

Lady Hussey resigned from the royal household today, just hours before the Prince and Princess of Wales touched down in the US, after she was accused of racism at a Buckingham Palace reception set up by Queen Consort Camilla.

But William and Kate are 'determined' not to be side-tracked from their mission to launch the Prince's Earthshot Prize awards in America and meet as many people from the local area as possible.

A spokesman described the trip as a 'huge moment' for them.

Kate has opted for a purple suit and matching turtleneck for the first leg of their trip, while William is dressed in a smart dark suit for their arrival.

William and Kate will spend three days in the USA, which will include the Earthshot Prize awards.

Earthshot was set up by Prince William in 2020 as a contest to champion innovative environmental solutions.

Back in the UK, a race row threatens to overshadow the trip after Prince William's godmother resigned her royal position over comments she made at the Queen's Consort reception earlier this week.
