Lady Susan, who was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II for decades and retained by King Charles III following his mother's death, is not the only controversial member of her family to hit headlines.

The 83-year-old is the widow of Marmaduke Hussey, former chairman of the BBC who passed away in 2006.

During the 10 years he chaired the board of governors, he was embroiled in controversy when in 1995, Panorama aired Martin Bashir's explosive interview with Princess Diana.

He famously fell out with BBC director-general John Birt over the tell-all, which was kept a secret from Lord Hussey, who later asked BBC governors to condemn the interview and the conduct of Birt and attempted to force his resignation.

His disgust for the production with the then Princess of Wales was recently portrayed in The Crown, which featured both Lord Hussey and his wife Lady Susan, played by Richard Cordery and Haydn Gwynne, respectively.

If you've ever wanted to be a fly on the wall at a royal party, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have treated fans to a glimpse of members of the monarchy boogying on the dancefloor at their wedding.

Mike and Zara Tindall can be spotted cutting shapes in the background in a never-before-seen picture of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding reception at Frogmore House, while another woman who appears to be the Queen consort dances nearby.

The new snap was shared in the trailer for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's upcoming bombshell Netflix docuseries, titled Harry and Meghan, which is due to be released on December 8.

The trailer, which was released today by the streaming giant, saw the couple share a considerable amount of private pictures taken throughout their relationship, from their May 19 2018 wedding day to their decision to step down as senior royal and life in Montecito, California.

Royal fans and experts have taken to social media to comment on the 'timing' of Harry and Meghan's Netflix trailer, which was released today.

It comes bang in the middle of William and Kate's US tour and amid a race row which has engulfed Buckingham Palace - after Lady Hussey allegedly repeatedly asked black domestic violence campaigner Ngozi Fulani where she was from.

Daily Mail columnist Richard Eden branded the Sussexes 'bitter' as he gave his verdict on the trailer on Twitter, which he noted was dropped 'the day before Prince William and Catherine's big royal event in the USA.'

MailOnline columnist Dan Wootton branded the pair 'shameless', accusing Harry of 'trying to destroy the Windsors', adding: 'Small mercy that the late Queen doesn't have to live through this.'

But others rushed to defend the Sussexes, as one wrote: 'Do you not understand Netflix decides when to release trailers and materials! Not Harry or Meghan. How exactly does this impact Will and Kate?'

Another agreed, but added: 'Netflix is in charge of this timing... It's a marketing strategy boost, yes!'

The Prince of Wales has backed the decision of his godmother Lady Susan Hussey to apologise and resign from the royal household after she repeatedly questioned a black British-born charity boss about where she 'really came from'.

The incident, which left the monarchy accused of 'institutional racism', overshadowed the first day of William and Kate's visit to America to stage the prince's Earthshot Prize award ceremony.

Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and Secretary John Kerry both failed to show up for Prince William and Kate Middleton's Earthshot event in Boston on Wednesday evening.

Kerry, the presidential envoy for climate, informed the Prince and Princess earlier today that he would 'sadly no longer be able to attend,' but did not clarify why.

Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy who is currently serving as the US Ambassador to Australia, said she experienced 'disrupted travel plans' due to the harsh weather lashing the east coast.

That weather, however, appeared to have led to very few cancellations at airports in Boston and in New York.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a number of ultra-personal unseen images in the first trailer for their new Netflix documentary today.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex can be seen dancing at their wedding, while in another Meghan can be seen cradling her baby bump in the trailer for Harry & Meghan, which was shared today.

The couple had been reported to have tried to push it back to 2023 despite the streaming giant paying them a rumoured $100million (£88million) for the fly-on-the-wall series. It is now set to be released on Thursday next week.

There have been mixed reports, with the royals reportedly 'at odds' with the production staff on their Netflix docuseries because the 'panicked' couple want to make 'such extensive edits' that the team believe the project could be 'shelved indefinitely'.

Other previously unseen images shared by the couple appear to show them in the early stages of their relationship while on holiday, jumping into the air with joy.

Downing Street declines to comment on Buckingham Palace 'race row'

Downing Street declined to comment on the resignation of the late Queen's lady in waiting after she asked a black domestic abuse campaigner where she 'really came from' at a royal reception.

Pressed on whether the Prime Minister believed it was right of Lady Susan Hussey to quit, Rishi Sunak's official spokesman told reporters: 'It's not one I've spoken to him about.

'It is a matter for the Palace and you'll know they have issued a statement on it.'

The Prince and Princess of Wales release their own video within minutes of 'Harry & Meghan' trailer release

While unlikely this was released to rival the bombshell dropped by Harry and Meghan amid the ongoing Cold War between the brothers, stranger things have certainly happened.

Nevertheless, the stealth PR War between the Sussexes and William and Kate rumbled on today.

The Prince and Princess of Wales took to Instagram to release a clip on the first stop of the USA tour.

They watched the Boston Celtics overcome their conference rivals Miami Heat at TD Garden, sitting shoulder to shoulder with the Celtics' owner Wyc Grousbeck and Boston politicians.

They wrote online: ‘Fantastic to celebrate the arrival of EarthshotBoston2022 in the city and meet members of the community doing amazing things to protect and restore our planet.

‘Last night’s @Celtics HeroAmongUs, Ollie Perrault, fights for environmental justice, working to get more young people involved in climate action - and all this at 15 years old. Amazing work!’

Boston Celtics star dismisses the fact Prince and Princess of Wales were sat courtside

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown highlighted how little he cared about playing in front of the Prince and Princess of Wales last night as the British Royal Family face down renewed allegations of racism .

William and Kate were sat courtside at the TD garden last night to see the Boston Celtics beat the Miami Heat by 134 to 121 points at home.

They are in Boston for the Earthshot Prize awards, a three-day event commemorating people who have made significant contributions to environmentalism.

When asked after the game what it was like to play in front of royalty, Brown replied dismissively: 'It was just a regular game to me,' before immediately moving on.

A helpful preview piece ahead of the Netflix docu-series release

The £88 million project from streaming giant Netflix will air next week and feature fly-on-the-wall footage of their home life and public outings.

But the Sussexes have claimed: 'It's our story through someone else's lens'.

While it's unclear on exactly how much of their home life the couple were prepared to share, they certainly did let Netflix cameras trail them on public appearances in 2021 and 2022.

Prince and Princess of Wales face their US tour being undermined with release of 'Harry & Meghan' trailer and Buckingham Palace race row

The trailer could hardly come at a worst time for William and Kate, who are on the second day of a visit to the US which has been overshadowed by a Buckingham Palace race row.

Omid Scoobie, a close friend of Meghan Markle, reacted to the development by tweeting: 'If tomorrow is Prince William's Super Bowl then here's your Halftime Show...'

Their US tour had already hit bumps in the road yesterday after a scandal over 'racist' comments made by Lady Susan Hussey at an event hosted by Queen Consort Camilla.

As the Sussexes unveiled their glitzy publicity push, William and Kate's troubles deepened today as one of the UK's leading lawyers claimed that Lady Susan Hussey also interrogated him about his heritage at the same function.

The standout moments in the 'Harry & Meghan' Netflix trailer

When Harry and Meghan jetted to the Global Citizen Live event in New York in late September 2021, a camera crew accompanied them.

Netflix teams also followed the royal couple six months later at the Invictus Games in the Hague.

Teaser trailer for Netflix's 'Harry & Meghan' documentary revealed

The first trailer for Harry and Meghan's bombshell Netflix show dropped today - just as William and Kate began the second day of their crucial US visit under the shadow of a Buckingham Palace race row.

The trailer opens with a producer asking 'why do you want to make this documentary?' before a reel of black and white photos are played, including one which shows Meghan with her head in her hands.

Later Harry's voice is heard saying, 'no one sees what goes on behind closed doors, I had to do everything I could to protect my family'.

The Sussexes have been paid a rumoured $100million (£88million) for the fly-on-the-wall series, which has left the Royal Family braced for more damaging accusations from the couple.

The release comes at an unhelpful time for the Prince and Princess of Wales - whose US tour got off to a tricky start yesterday after a scandal over 'racist' comments made by Lady Susan Hussey at an event hosted by Queen Consort Camilla.

Prince William's welcome message to the people of Boston

‘Catherine and I are delighted to be back in the United States and are extremely grateful to Governor Baker and The First Lady of Massachusetts for their warm welcome into Boston.

‘On this, our first overseas visit since the death of my grandmother, I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts and particularly Boston for their many tributes paid to the late Queen.

‘She remembered her 1976 bicentennial visit with great fondness.

‘My grandmother was one of life’s optimists. And so am I. That is why last year we launched The Earthshot Prize with the ambition to create a truly global platform to inspire hope and urgent optimism as we look to save the future of our planet.

‘To the people of Boston, thank you. I’m so grateful to you for allowing us to host the second year of The Earthshot Prize in your great city.

'Catherine and I can’t wait to meet many of you in the days ahead.’

Prince and Princess of Wales' rainy photo draws comparisons to THAT 'umbrella photo' of Harry and Meghan

The Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted a photo after their arrival in Boston on Wednesday that has drawn comparisons to a viral rain-soaked image of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex two years ago.

'Boston, what a welcome!' read the tweet from the royals' official Twitter account, along with photos of a City Hall welcome ceremony hosted by Mayor Michelle Wu and Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healy.

Attached were two photos of the ceremony, one a traditional image showing the royals posing with the US officials, and the other taken from an unusual angle at the back of the stage, showing the couple's back turned with rain falling.

It drew online comparisons to an iconic photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle taken in March 2020, shortly before they quit royal duties and moved to California, which many described as looking like something 'out of a movie scene.'

Down to Earth! Prince and Princess of Wales praised for flying commercial to USA for Earthshot launch

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been branded 'utterly delightful' by members of the cabin crew who served them during their eight-hour commercial flight from London to Boston yesterday.

The royal couple, both 40, have flown out to the US for a whirlwind three-day tour of Massachusetts' capital city before attending the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony at the MGM Music Hall tomorrow night.

The couple are also expected to meet President Biden on Friday at the White House ahead of the Earthshot ceremony in the evening.

According to CBS, the royal couple's entourage took up most of the first class seats during the eight-hour flight.

Impressed cabin crew said the couple were 'utterly delightful' to serve on board the plane.

Meanwhile, fellow passengers said there was a 'real buzz' aboard after news of their royal guests spread.

Passenger Brent Scuttles - who was sitting just two rows behind Prince William - admitted it was a total 'surprise' to see the royals on board a commercial plane.

Ngozi Fulani pictured on Good Morning Britain this morning

Domestic abuse campaigner Ngozi Fulani appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain today after being asked where she 'really came from' at a royal reception.

Ms Fulani, founder of the charity Sistah Space, expressed her shock at her treatment by the late Queen's lady in waiting, Lady Susan Hussey, but said she has yet to be contacted by Buckingham Palace to discuss the incident.

Lady Susan, the Prince of Wales's 83-year-old godmother, resigned from the household and apologised after she repeatedly challenged Ms Fulani when she said was British at the Queen Consort's reception highlighting violence against women and girls.

Ms Fulani told ITV's Good Morning Britain: 'Although I didn't experience physical violence, what I feel I experienced was a form of abuse.'

Black studies professor says the Royal Family will 'never escape' their 'fundamental problem with institutional racism'

A controversial black studies professor today accused the Royal Family of racism after the late Queen's chief lady-in-waiting resigned from her post under King Charles amid a race row.

Kehinde Andrews, a professor of black studies at Birmingham City University, claimed The Firm was 'deeply embedded in institutional racism', telling ITV's Good Morning Britain: 'By now we should have understood that the British Royal Family has a real problem with racism'.

Lady Susan Hussey, Prince William's godmother and the late Queen's chief lady-in-waiting, issued an apology and quit her honorary royal post under the King after Ngozi Fulani, a black guest at a Buckingham Palace reception, said she felt 'violated' after being 'interrogated' by the royal about what country she came from, despite being born in the UK.

Officials said they were taking the incident 'extremely seriously' and had launched an immediate investigation into the 'unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments'.

Ex-chief crown prosecutor wades into royal race row

One of the UK's leading lawyers today claimed that Lady Susan Hussey interrogated him about his heritage at the same function where she asked a black British domestic violence campaigner: 'Where in Africa are you from?'.

Nazir Afzal, 60, Chancellor of the University of Manchester and ex-chief prosecutor of the CPS under Sir Keir Starmer, reacted to the row by declaring: 'Racism is never far away'.

Ngozi Fulani made headlines around the world after Buckingham Palace was engulfed in a toxic race row that saw the late Queen's chief lady-in-waiting - and also Prince William's godmother - resign after being accused of racially insulting her and refusing to believe she was British.

Mr Afzal tweeted: 'I was at the Buckingham Palace reception at which Lady Hussey questioned the heritage of a brilliant DV expert Ngozi Fulani. She only asked me my heritage once & seemed to accept my answer - Manchester currently!'.

Who is Ngozi Fulani, the charity campaigner at the heart of Buckingham Palace race probe?

Ngozi Fulani is the British-born black charity founder who was asked by royal aide Lady Susan Hussey 'What part of Africa are you from?' and said she was subjected to 'prolonged racism'.

Ms Fulani, who created Sistah Space, said she was offended by the remarks but did not want Lady Hussey - who is Prince William's godmother - to lose her job.

As a child growing up in ‘the only black family in the street’ in north London in the 1960s, she was warned by her Windrush generation parents to keep her head down.

Charity founder reveals she has not received an apology from top royals

Campaigner Ngozi Fulani today revealed that the King, Queen Consort or Prince William have not contacted her to apologise, despite Buckingham Palace's claims they had.

But she said she would be 'happy' to take up the Royal Family's invitation to meet to discuss what happened when Lady Susan Hussey refused to believe she was British and 'about 7 or 8 times' had asked her: 'Where are you really from?'.

Describing the 'interrogation', as she described it, she said: 'I was stood next to two other women - black women - and she (Lady Susan) just made a beeline for me, and she took my locks and moved it out of the way so that she could see my name badge. That's a no-no. I wouldn't put my hands in someone's hair, and culturally it's not appropriate'.

Ms Fulani explained that she tried to give Lady Susan Hussey the benefit of the doubt when the 83-year-old started questioning her.

'At that time, I'm thinking to myself, is it that she - because she keeps asking me the same question - could it be that she can't hear me well? Because you have to consider so many things when you're talking to someone who may be older than you...

'But it soon dawned on me very quickly that this was nothing to do with her capacity to understand, but this is her trying to make me really denounce my British citizenship.'

The incident on Tuesday, and Lady Hussey's swift departure from the royal household, has already overshadowed the Prince and Princess of Wales' three-day visit to the US - viewed as their most important ever.

Richard Kay profiles the woman at the centre of the Palace's race row

When they were together there was always a lot of laughter. It was a jolly, infectious humour, often wry but never cruel, and based on shared experiences going back decades. And no one spanned the Queen's life quite like her lady-in-waiting, Lady Susan Hussey.

The earl's daughter who arrived at Buckingham Palace as a 21-year-old to help with the royal postbag after the birth of Prince Andrew was still there more than 60 uncomplaining years later, accompanying the Queen to Prince Philip's funeral and, after Her Majesty's death, leading members of her personal staff to the lying-in-state at Westminster Hall.

Unflappable, loyal and discreet, it was inevitable that Lady Susan, a godmother to Prince William, would be among the handful of the late monarch's most trusted staff invited to serve the new Queen Consort Camilla.

Prince and Princess of Wales are bombarded with cheers and a smattering of boos at Boston Celtics game

The Prince and Princess of Wales joined 20,000 fans to cheer on the Boston Celtics at a basketball game - just after the launch of the prince's Earthshot Prize risked being overshadowed by a Buckingham Palace race row.

On their first day in the city during a landmark US tour, William and Kate were brought into the TD Garden stadium to sit courtside close to the action alongside the Celtics' owners Wyc Grousbeck and wife Emilia Fazzalari.

Kate and William, who were also flanked by Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, stood for the US national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, performed by a previous semi-finalist from the reality TV series The Voice.

The royal couple put on brave faces as faint boos could be heard around the arena when they were introduced by a stadium announcer and shown on the big screen.

Other fans in the crowd could be heard loudly cheering 'USA, USA' when the Prince and Princess appeared on the screens above the court.
