A woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's disappeared from a Miami airport after deplaning without her airline-issued escort.
Colombia native María Velásquez, 63, lives in Connecticut and was flying from Massachusetts to Miami on Saturday to spend the holidays with her family.
When she landed at Miami International Airport, Miami-Dade Police said that Velásquez 'unintentionally missed the personnel which were going to assist her' after arriving at the gate.
Her son, Jonathan Vanegas, told news outlets in Miami that he had made arrangements with American Airlines to ensure that someone would escort Velásquez to a family member who was going to pick her up.
But she went missing - before showing up two days later on Monday.

María was spotted on a security camera at Miami International Airport without her airline-issued escort before she disappeared Saturday
'(I) had painful hours, suffering, thinking that she was cold, hungry, that she was confused, that she was cold,' Vanegas said. '(Had) fear about how she was going to sleep.'
Miami International Airport surveillance cameras showed Velásquez walking past the person who was waiting for her to transport her on a wheelchair.
Velásquez was holding a black jacket and walking through the airport terminal and outside the terminal entrance before she disappeared.
María Velásquez, who suffers from Alzheimer's, was seen on a Miami International Airport surveillance camera Saturday walking through the terminal after she got off an American Airlines flight without her escort. She spent two days in the streets of Miami before she was spotted by a Good Samaritan, who alerted police
Jonathan Vanegas said he made arrangements with American Airlines to ensure that his mother would be escorted to a family member who was going to pick her up at Miami International Airport
On Monday morning, a Good Samaritan spotted Velásquez on a street and noticed that she was wearing a medical wristband before alerting police.
Vanegas said American Airlines should be held at fault for his mother having left the airport unattended.
'To me it was American's negligence because it was in the system that she had Alzheimer's,' he said. 'My mom got off the plane, but no one looked at her.'
