A mother has told a boutique they should ask for ID before selling their 'revealing' garments after her daughter was dress coded for wearing the brand's rhinestone mini to school.
Vanilla Bella Boutique, a US brand, took to TikTok to canvas opinion after the complaint, relaying the interaction in a video while someone packaged up the white dress for delivery in the backdrop.
'My daughter ordered from you without my permission and got dress coded,' the customer apparently said.
And the offer of a refund did not appease the woman, who said they should have asked her daughter for ID and questions why they're selling 'dresses like that' in the first place.
Vanilla Bella Boutique, a US brand, received a complaint from a mother whose daughter was dress coded at school for wearing their rhinestone mini dress
The boutique replied to the complaint: 'Oh no I'm so sorry! If you send it back we can refund you!'
The customer then protested that the refund was not the problem, but it was the fact that her daughter was 'dress coded for wearing your mini dress to class'.
Continuing in their attempt to keep the customer happy, the boutique responded: 'I'm extremely sorry that happened.
'Most of our mini dresses are intended to be worn for special events or going out.'
But the customer said: 'Why would you even sell dresses like that in the first place?
The angry mother said that the brand should ask for ID before selling the dress but they said that was not necessary because the card transaction was approved online
'You should've asked my daughter for my ID when she ordered.'
Explaining that they do not ask for ID if the card goes through, the customer concluded: 'You shouldn't be selling those revealing dresses like that.'
The video sparked more than two thousand comments with one user saying: 'You can sell whatever you want and if the lady doesn’t like it well then they can go to another store.'
Another defended the boutique writing: 'How are you supposed to monitor all of the sales that come through you? How about parents monitor what their kids are buying better?'
Comments flooded in from TikTok users supporting the boutique and saying the mother's criticism had been directed at the wrong person
Others said that the mother was aiming her criticisms in the wrong direction.
One comment said: 'Sounds like this lady is yelling at the wrong person!'
Another wrote: 'Not your fault where they wear it or their age. You're being too nice offering a refund. Your stuff is great btw!'
