Tom Brady isn't used to losing much during his two-decade career but when he does strange things like forgetting his family can happen.

His Tampa Bay Buccaneers were soundly disposed of by the San Francisco 49ers - Brady's childhood team - despite third-string quarterback, Brock Purdy, making his first start for the home team.

As such, he was staggered his family remained at Levi's Stadium to see him. Brady is widely known as someone who hates losing more than most, and after the beating it seems he was solely consumed by it, initially at least.

'We got our ass kicked, and I was walking from the locker room to the bus — a kind of long walk of 500 yards or so.

And just as I got to the bus the woman who I was with said, "Hey, didn't you want to see your family?'" Brady said on his weekly podcast, Let's Go!

'They stayed?' Brady replied.

'So I turned around and walked back,' Brady continued. 'And at least after the game I got to see my sisters, nieces and some cousins. My parents left in the third quarter, thankfully, to get home.'

Despite his family sticking around for the Niners onslaught, Brady understood if Tampa Bay fans found better uses of their Sunday afternoon.

'I’m sure they left, is what they did,' he remarked postgame. 'I don’t want them out there in this s***. It was horrible. We sucked.'

Brady struggled against a ferocious 49ers defense, completing 34 of 55 passes for 253 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Tampa Bay only managed to put seven points on the board - and were shut out until third quarter.

Brady showed immense sportsmanship in the aftermath of the 35-7 loss.

He greeted a slew of San Francisco players near midfield and even signed a football at the request of the 49ers' Dre Greenlaw after he picked off the seven-time Super Bowl champ during the game.

Despite the torrid performance, the Buccaneers sit atop the NFC South with a 6-7 record -- a game ahead of both the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons.

It doesn't get any easier for Tampa as Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals come to town on Sunday on a five-game winning streak.
