Jordan Belfort has told disgraced FTX chief Sam Bankman-Fried to 'shut up' and 'listen to his lawyers' as he faces years in prison.

Bankman-Fried, 30, was arrested on Monday in the Bahamas on half of the US following the collapse of his digital currency exchange that was formerly worth billions.

Belfort inspired the movie 'Wolf on Wall Street' and was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Similarly to Bankman-Fried, Belfort was arrested in 1998 for crimes related to the stock market and served 22 months in prison.

In an interview with Fox News' Jesse Watters, Belfort recommended Bankman-Fried stay quiet and not complain about prison not meeting his vegan dietary needs.

'First of all, [Bankman-Fried] got to shut up,' Belfort said. 'This guy has diarrhea of the mouth.

'Once he gets to the US, he's in serious pain... he needs to shut up and listen to his lawyers.'

Bankman-Fried has been hiding out in his $40 million penthouse in the Bahamas, which takes up the entire top floor of an ocean-front apartment block in the ultra-exclusive development of The Albany on the island of New Providence.

The penthouse is 7,500 square feet, five bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms and has a pool directly in front of the master suite.

The 30-year-old apparently lived with nine friends in the penthouse - with the group all dating each other.

Belfort admitted he never invested into FTX and questioned those who took one look at Bankman-Fried's unprofessional look and decided to trust him.

'They actually should have their heads examined because if I would have walked into this place and taken one look around it, it would have taken me five seconds flat to say there is something amiss here - there is no way these guys are on the level,' Belfort told the news outlet.

'He was playing video games [and] they're all banging each other in this - more like a frat house than a business.'

Bankman-Fried also protested going to jail because he is vegan and 'depressed.' His lawyers had requested that his bail be set at $255,000.

Bankman-Fried faces 155 years in prison on eight counts of money laundering and fraud. US prosecutors are preparing to charge some of his friends too.

Prosecutors say he used the platform as a 'personal piggy bank' to fund a lavish lifestyle and make whopping political donations.

Bankman-Fried maintains that he did nothing of the sort, and was going to tell Congress  that he could repay all of the people who have lost money if his assets were unfrozen, despite previously filing for bankruptcy.

Prosecutors claimed he hid $300million in a Brazilian fund in September, months before the collapse of his crypto trading platform, as a means of setting himself up for an escape when the inevitable happened.

He was denied him bail on Wednesday as he fights for extradition to the United States.
