A winter storm is approaching the East Coast with freezing conditions days after it wreaked havoc across the US.

The storm started in California where some areas were covered under 48 inches of snow as a blizzard started to move through the state and toward to northern Plains and Upper Midwest.

Now, Northern Pennsylvania, upstate New York, northwest Connecticut, northwest New Jersey, New England, and western Massachusetts have all received Winter Weather Advisories as some areas are expected to get snow up to 10 inches through Monday.

The inclement weather may also cause power outages through falling trees due to heavy ice.

The Virginias will be the first to get hit by rain and freezing temperatures before the storm moves up to Pennsylvania by Thursday afternoon.

New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont will also get some snow leading into Thursday evening.

Weather conditions in the mountain areas of Virginia and in other areas of West Virginia can see up to nearly an inch of ice, according to Fox Weather.

The most amount of ice is anticipated in Virginia's Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains, and from West Virginia to Pennsylvania.

Residents should be aware the weight of the ice on trees can bring them down along with power lines that may be nearby.

As the East Coast faces chaotic weather, travelers should be cautious of the Interstate 95 corridor that runs through the Virginias and Pennsylvania.

The winter storm will make its way through Pennsylvania and toward New York by Thursday afternoon before heading toward other states in the evening.

High-elevations in New York and Maine will see at least a foot of snow, but lower levels might only see less than an inch, according to Fox Weather.

Maine will see the last bit of the storm on Friday before the weather calms down leading into the weekend.

Meanwhile, other parts of the US, including Tallahassee, Florida, are on tornado watch after warnings of damaging winds.

At least 20 tornadoes have occurred through the southern US, including in Texas and Louisiana from Monday through Wednesday.
