Keep it natural! Add greenery

The director of interior design at the real estate service Pacaso told Insider: 'No matter what other trends are circling around it, or layering in, greenery is always at the epicenter of winter decor.'

She explained that you don't have to go overboard.

A green velvet blanket that sits on the sofa or a vase with eucalyptus branches inside help to create a nature-inspired atmosphere, while also making your home appear more festive.

Not only does adding greenery help to make your home more festive, it also adds additional cozy elements.

Whether its a green cashmere blanket or faux-fur decorative pillows, you can add the ultimate touch of luxury to your space with greenery.

Less is more! Use wood finishes and neutral colors

While red and green are associated with Christmas, you can skip the traditional holiday colors this year and opt for something more neutral to add a chic, but festive, touch to your space.

Tochett recommends incorporating neutral elements to your winter décor to make your home pop this holiday season.

She suggests you opt for wood versions of your go-to seasonal decors to create a warm holiday glow.

'Blonde-walnut candlesticks on the table, oversized wooden bowls holding scented pine cones, or woven wooden baskets for your cozy, winter blankets are a few easy examples,' she told Insider.

To create a more tasteful look for this holiday season, you can choose a standard color palette.

Some colors you can look to incorporate are ivory, emerald green, wine red, eggplant, navy and black.

Filler flower to the rescue! Use Baby's breath to add festive cheer

In addition to adding greenery, adding baby's breath into you holiday decorations is another great way to incorporate natural touches.

Jessica Harris, interior designer and manager of production design at Living Spaces, said: 'One of my favorite holiday decor ideas is to add baby's breath sparsely into your tree.

'It adds natural texture, layering, and depth, and it can act like snow.'

She added that you can even paint the flowers any color you'd like or layer them with eucalyptus to spruce up your home.

Not only is the filler flower a great way to add festive cheer to your space, it also makes for an inexpensive, simple and easy way to fill out your Christmas tree.

Just purchase a couple of bouquets of the flower - depending on the size of your tree - at your local grocery store and place small sections sporadically throughout your tree.

Use the rest to decorate your home.

Lights, lights and more lights! Add white twinkle lights all around your home

Interior designer Michelle Harrison-McAllister, interior designer of Michelle Harrison Design, shared that those small white lights can be used for much more then decorating your tree.

She revealed that the dazzling lights can give your home a warm glow and add a chic touch.

Harrison-McAllister recommends using them around your windows, artwork, frames or headboards to add charming, soft touches throughout your space.

If you want to incorporate natural and glowing elements, you can even string white lights through artificial vines and hang them on your walls.

When purchasing the twinkle lights, make sure you buy at least 100 per foot of your tree and grab some extra to put around your home.

Gift giving galore! Put gifts under the tree before Christmas day

While everyone loves seeing gifts underneath the tree on December 25, interior Designer Ginger Curtis recommends using them as holiday décor.

The interior designer and owner of Urbanology Designs noted that you should forgo the bright red and green wrapping paper and wrap your presents in brown paper and twine instead.

She explained that this will add a more calming atmosphere to your home, while still giving it holiday cheer.

Curtis suggested adding a hint of color to the presents by using dried slices of lemons and oranges along with rosemary or baby breath sprigs tied into the twine.

And if you want to make gifts more personal, you can ditch the brown paper and wrap them in fabric instead.

Curtis recommends wrapping them in kitchen linens, tabletop napkins or even scarves.

There's nothing like home! Add cozy touches with personal decorations

Harrison-McAllister shared another way to add another personal touch to your home.

She suggested using your favorite childhood toy as a decoration - either under the tree or peeking out of stockings.

Interior designer Tocchet explained that using recycled materials for decorations this season is not only great for your wallet and the earth but it also adds another personal touch to your home.

'Heartfelt, handmade trinkets, as well as larger-scale folksy wall decorations, exemplify the timeless household traditions we cherish so much,' Tocchet told Insider.

She explained that DIY projects such as ornaments, garlands, or even macramé are the perfect activities to get the family involved to add holiday cheer without overwhelming your home.

Curtis recommends making garland out of candy canes or twine and placing it throughout your home.

'Hang it from a blanket ladder in your living room, or artfully lay it out amongst your coffee-table objects,' Curtis said.

Bare is better! Opt for a sparse tree to emphasize décor

According to interior designers, people can't get enough of sparse tree -or Charlie Brown trees this year.

Harris explained that bare trees are so loved because they help to emphasize special ornaments and decorations.

She said that when paired with white twinkle lights, the scant trees bring holiday touches to your home without making it feel like Santa's workshop.

'There's something whimsical and minimal about a Charlie Brown tree that just embraces simplicity in the midst of a holiday that can be overabundant,' Ginger told Insider.

She even detailed how you can decorate the bare tree.

'What's even better is if you put your Charlie Brown tree into a basket, then stuff a warm, cozy blanket into the basket with the tree, and let it drape over to add another layer of soft, wintery texture that's perfect for the holidays,' Curtis said.

Uneven is the way to go! Keep your design asymmetrical to draw attention

No matter what area of your home your trying to decorate, Harris recommends keeping the design asymmetrical.

She explained that by placing your decorations unevenly, you draw attention to them.

This means that even if the Scrooge is entering your home they won't be able to stop themselves from staring at your glorious decorations.

Harris added that not only should you place the designs asymmetrically, but you should also decorate with odd numbers.

By decorating with odd numbers, your festive décor will catch everyone's eyes, without looking messy.

'A good rule of thumb when following the asymmetrical rule is to always try to decorate with odd numbers,' Harris told Insider.

Ditch the skirt! Opt for a tree collar

While tree skirts used to be all the rage, they are now out and tree collars are in, according to interior designers

While tree skirts used to be all the rage, they are now out and tree collars are in, according to interior designers.

Tree collars help you cover the base of your tree while also maintain a cohesive theme throughout your home.

'I personally prefer a tree collar over a tree skirt.

'Tree collars are cleaner, minimalist, add texture, soften the space, and allow the tree and ornaments to be the star of the show,' Harris explained.

She suggests choose a woven basket collar to help make your home look mire put together.

Woven basket tree collars come in many neutral colors like taupe, pale brown and gray - making them the perfect addition to your home.
