Cowboys asked wide receiver T.Y. Hilton 'if he was okay about them signing Odell Beckham Jr. too'

The Dallas Cowboys may be on the verge of signing one of football's most courted free agents of all time in Odell Beckham Jr. but that didn't stop owner Jerry Jones from asking the locker room's thoughts on the deal prior to the postseason.

According to reports, the Cowboys still lead the race to sign Beckham Jr. and are making a late run for him despite bringing in another veteran wide receiver in T.Y. Hilton, 33, at the start of December.

It appears Jones recently wanted to make sure that the team's pursuit of the 30-year-old free agent doesn't get out of hand. A source told the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the 80-year-old asked the newly signed Hilton: 'How would you feel if we signed Beckham, too?'

According to Rapoport, Hilton's response was music to the Cowboys owner's ears.

'That's great,' the ex-Colts star said. 'I'm here to win a Super Bowl.'

Meanwhile, the Cowboys and Beckham Jr are at a stumbling block in negotiations over a deal, according to Rapoport.

Beckham is in search of guaranteed money for both this year and next year, but Dallas is hesitant to allocate that much in salary for the 30-year-old, who is said to still be recovering from a torn ACL injury while playing in Super Bowl LVI in February.

It is believed that the ex-Giants, Browns and Rams is still a few weeks away from being able to return to the field.

Although no agreement over a potential deal is in place, Jones has publicly shared his admiration for Beckham's talent and is confident that the Cowboys will get a deal over the line for the first-round pick of the 2012 NFL draft.

'Odell's going to join us,' Jones told USA Today on Thursday. 'There's a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I'll look to the future. But most of it being about now.'

Although both sides seem to be getting closer to an arrangement, time is not exactly on Dallas' side. The Cowboys only have three games remaining before the end of the regular season and are said to be reluctant to only play Beckham Jr. in the playoffs.

On Sunday, Dallas lost 34-40 to the Jacksonville Jaguars but still clinched a wild card playoff spot despite the loss.

The Cowboys will now face the 13-1 Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve.
