Stylist reveals what you should and shouldn't buy from chain stores like Target

A stylist has revealed her top tips for shopping at discount stores and even detailed what clothing you should skip out on while browsing.

Ashlyn Greer, a stylist and owner of a personal styling company, Fashivly, based in the US, frequently details how to get the best looks no matter the occasion. 

From jeans to dresses, the stylist, 32, revealed what clothes you buy and what you should 'skip' at 'discount stores like Target.'

The stylist detailed that you should avoid both jeans and sweaters from discount stores because they look cheap 

She added that you should skip the faux leather too because they 'smell really bad' and advised customers to put in extra cash to get something that will last them for years

'I'm a stylist and I'm about to show you what to buy and what not to buy at discount stores like Target,' she said at the beginning of her video. 

She then detailed what you should avoid while shopping at the 'big merchandising' stores.

'First up is jeans, the fit on these is never that great [and] they look cheap,' the stylist said.

'Do not buy high pile sweaters, they pick really easily after one to two washes. 

'You can spend $50 and get a much better quality.'

She added that another 'do not buy' item that made her list was 'anything faux leather.' 

'A do not buy is anything faux leather. These smell really bad [and] pick so easily,' Ashlyn explained

'Spend $50 more and get something that will last you two years.'

After advising that customers avoid jeans and sweaters at all costs due to the quality of the items not giving you a bang for your buck, she then shared what you should reach for. 

'A do buy is slip dress or slip skirts,' she said, before explaining that these satin dresses or skirts are 'polyester' whether it's $20 from discount stores or '$100 from Nordstrom.' 

Ashlyn explained that you should buy slip dresses or slip skirts because they are made from polyester, and recommended customers also purchase any elastic pants

The stylist said customers should opt for sweat suits (left) from discount stores. Another article of clothing that the stylist advised you purchase was 'any sort of denim jacket' (right)

'Another do buy is any elastic pant, these are mostly going to be cotton either way,' she noted.

'Same thing with sweat suits, these are mostly going to be cotton or a cotton blend. Spend less money on them.'

'A do buy is any sort of denim jacket. The fit is going to be fine [and] the quality is the same,' she said at the end of her video.
