The Denver Broncos and LA Rams have had seasons they would rather forget through 15 weeks of NFL action, and it was only about to get worse.
Or so they thought.
In a hilarious prank conducted by Broncos kicker Brandon McManus, Rams safety Nick Scott and CBS Sports, ugly Christmas sweater-style jerseys were paraded on a mannequin at Denver's Englewood and LA's Thousand Oaks facilities.
Naturally, the reactions were as hilarious as the designs themselves. Many may already be turning televisions off ahead of the game between the two NFL strugglers, and said jerseys may have been the final nail.
New Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield did a double-take when stumbling upon the LA uniform
Thankfully for all involved, the jerseys are not going to be added to the Christmas Day calendar, and judging by reactions from both camps, that can only be a positive.
Newly minted Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield did a double-take when stumbling upon the LA uniform, including a yellow helmet with Christmas lights embossed on the traditional Rams horns.
Under-pressure Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson also questioned whether Denver would in fact be wearing the eyesore of a uniform.
A portion of Denver Broncos players believed they would be wearing a festive uniform Dec. 25
The fake jerseys look to be a sleeveless version of the 'ugly' Christmas sweaters released by both teams and included the No. 25 and Christmas on the nameplate as a nod to the Broncos visit to SoFi Stadium on Christmas Day.
Other players could not believe what they were seeing, with a Rams player calling the fit 'ugly as f***', with another labeling it as 'trash.'
Denver's helmet had a reindeer, instead of its traditional Bronco, with one player saying; 'The reindeer is a little childish. Our regular helmet would have been okay.'
Thankfully for many Broncos players and fans it will be more than okay and usable on the day.
Some Rams players were pleased with the fit but the majority did not enjoy the Xmas uniform
When the Christmas schedule was announced it looked like a salivating prospect with the reigning Super Bowl champions against Russell Wilson and a reenergized Broncos.
Instead, both franchises are 4-10 and have already been eliminated from the possibility of making the playoffs.
In a time synonymous for gratitude, one may theorize it could have been worse. Reindeer helmet and all.
