The mother of Rep. George Santos said on a US government visa application she was not even in the US at the time of the Sept. 11th attacks – despite her son's claim that she 'survived the tragic events' that day.
The revelation – which directly contradicts the claim made by the New York Republican – who has admitted to a series of fabrications, comes as a former New York Republicans, Rep. Pete King, called on him to resign, saying he was a potential 'disaster' for the GOP and was 'dragging down the Republican caucus to a shameful place.'
It came the same day a man who lived for a few months with Santos said he would flash wads of cash, only to claim to be broke days later – and accused him of stealing his Burberry scarf.
Santos' mother stated in a 2003 visa application to enter the U.S. from Brazil that she hadn't been to the country since 1999, the Washington Post reported.
That came despite Santos claiming on his campaign website: 'George's mother was in her office in the South Tower on Sept. 11, 2001, when the horrific events of that day unfolded.'
A visa application by Rep. George Santos' mother stated that she hadn't been in the US between 1999 and 2003, but his campaign website said she had survived the Sept. 11th, 2021 attacks
The site also said she 'survived the tragic events on September 11th, but she passed away a few years later when she lost her battle to cancer.'
The unsubstantiated statement packed an emotional punch in a Long Island district that lost many office workers and first responders during the Sept. 11th attacks.
Santos' mother died in December 2016, when the son solicited donations to help pay funeral expenses.
He also tweeted in 2021 that '9/11 claimed my mothers life,' even though she died years after the attacks.
It was not the only tragedy Santos attached himself to. He claimed to have lost four employees during the attack on the Pulse nightclub in Florida, only to have that claim knocked down after none of the 49 victims appeared connected to his companies.
Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, where Santos said he previously worked, have not confirmed that he worked there.
The revelation came on a day when a man who shared a New York apartment with George Santos says the newly elected Republican would flash wads of cash and made claims of 'generational wealth' that didn't add up.
'He would just go to bars with just rolls of hundred dollar bills, and three days later he would have no money,' said Gregory Morey-Parker, who moved in for a few months with Santos after losing his own Queens apartment.
Fatima A.C.H. Devolder was born on December 22, 1962 in Rio de Janeiro. She applied for a visa to travel to the US in 2003
Santos tweeted in 2021 that ' 9/11 claimed my mothers life ,' even though she died years after the attacks
He described Santos, who went by the name Anthony Devolder at the time, as having 'just delusions of grandeur.'
'He would constantly be saying, oh well, I'm going to sell my phone, do you know anybody who wants to buy it? And you know, I'm like why are you selling it? And he's like oh, don't worry about it,' he said Santos responded.
The allegations came in a week where a disabled homeless veteran accused Santos of stealing $3,000 from a GoFundMe campaign meant to get an operation for his sick dog, and after the House GOP Steering Committee decided to award Santos seats on the House Small Business and Science, Space and Technology committees.
Rep. George Santos' former roommate says the New York lawmaker had 'delusions of grandeur,' and would head to the bar with 'rolls of hundred dollar bills'
Morey-Parker claims Santos, who used the name Anthony Devolder, took his Burberry scarf
'And it is just things just started continuously spiraling, getting, like, kind of ridiculously crazy,' the roommate told CNN. His mother was a housekeeper, in Manhattan, and it just didn't seem feasible for him supposedly to come from all this generational wealth, if you will. Why are you doing the things that you're doing? it doesn't make sense to me,' he said.
Morey-Parker called it an 'interesting few months.' He said he has 'always known him as Anthony Devolder.'
The roommate says he 'kind of assumed' that Santos 'made up' attending Baruch College and NYU – schools that after his win in a House seat picked up from a Democrat said he did not attend.
'But then I thought, well maybe I was wrong, you know, after the election because I'm sure the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) and RNC (Republican National Committee) would've investigated him and at least his opponent would have done some oppo (opposition) research.'
Several New York Republican lawmakers have called on Santos to resign. He now faces a likely House Ethics committee probe and federal and local investigations after admitting to a series of false claims about his professional life, his education, his faith, and his biography.
Morey-Parker also accuses Santos of stealing his Burberry scarf and wearing at a January 5, 2021 'Stop the Steal' rally where he spoke.
He told the local news site Patch that he was '100 per cent certain' the scarf, which went missing, was the one that had been given to him as a gift.
'If you're from New York, you know what they did to me. They did to me what they did to Donald Trump. They stole my election,' he said at the 2021 rally in DC's Freedom Plaza, speaking of his loss to Democrat Tom Suozzi.
'For 14 days I was congressman-elect of the 3rd Congressional District of New York — the first ever biggest upset for a Republican in New York City,' he said. DailyMail.com has reached out to Santos' office for a response.
