It was considered one of the largest international drug trafficking busts in FBI history, leading to thousands of arrests around the world.

And now, more than a decade later, professional gambler turned FBI informant RJ Cipriani's role in taking down the massive drug and money laundering operation is set to hit television screens as a limited series, according to Deadline.

The TV drama, dubbed 'Jackpot', is currently in the works at Sony Pictures Television and will follow Cipriani as he's unwittingly ensnared in a dangerous and violent drug ring after meeting convicted kingpin and former college football star Owen 'O-Dog' Hanson in Australia.

The series, which is being billed as 'part Donnie Brasco and part Ocean's 11,' will be produced by filmmaker Nicholas Stoller's Stoller Global Solutions company, with Cipriani serving as an executive producer.

The Las Vegas high roller, known as Robin Hood 702 for his habit of giving winnings away to the poor and keeping his identity concealed with his signature dark sunglasses and baseball cap, famously became the target of the drug ring in 2011.

While promoting his latest giveaway in Australia, he met Hanson who then unsuccessfully tried to get him to launder $20million through Cipriani's international casino gambling.

Hanson wanted Cipriani to gamble drug money and take the proceeds by way of a casino check to other casinos around the world when instructed.

Casinos would think nothing of a known high-roller like Cipriani depositing large amounts of money into their vaults for gambling purposes - and when he took the money back out in a check he could transport it anywhere in the world without raising suspicion.

When he didn't comply the traffickers sent Cipriani and his wife a horrifying DVD to their Santa Monica home that showed two men being beheaded by thugs thought to be members of a Mexican cartel, wielding a chainsaw and a butcher's knife.

Hanson also mailed him an altered photo of himself wearing a Mexican wrestler’s mask and holding a shovel, while standing in front of the gravesite of Cipriani's parents.

Blood-red paint was splattered on his mother’s tombstone in the sinister snap.

He even sent flowers to his wife with a sinister message and bombarded her with threatening calls.

Hanson was charged with running a multi-million dollar operation called ODOG Enterprise, along with 22 other associates, in January 2017.

The multi-tiered ring was reportedly involved with drug trafficking, illegal sports gambling and money laundering, and its tentacles extended from San Diego to Brooklyn to Australia and Mexico.

Hanson ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts: drug trafficking and racketeering and was sentenced to a minimum 255 months in prison - 21 years and three months in December 2017.

Cipriani delivered a victim impact statement to the court at Hanson's sentencing.

He said Hanson's sophisticated operation used violence and the most 'terrifying' scare tactics to get debtors to comply with their demands.

He also thanked the FBI for the 'extraordinary job' they did in saving the lives of him and his model wife, Brazilian actress Greice Santo.

In an emotional statement, he said: 'Owen Hanson hired people to intimidate, threaten, hurt, kidnap and kill me and my wife.

'What people also seem to forget are the countless lives that have been saved because the drugs that Owen Hanson was selling were also destroying, and polluting lives globally.'
