Maggie and Paul Murdaugh's cell phone data in full: All texts and movements

Prosecutors say the cell phone data in the timelines below is central to proving that Alex Murdaugh shot his wife and son at the kennels of the family's hunting estate in South Carolina's Lowcountry on the night of June 7, 2021.

Paul's iPhone recorded some 900 data entries in the space of four hours that night - he was a 'prolific' phone user - but then at 8.49pm the device 'locked forever' and ongoing conversations with friends abruptly ended.

Murdaugh's son also made a phone call at 8.40pm that night during which his friend Rogan Gibson testified he could hear Alex in the background, as well as in a video taken at 8.44pm at the kennels - where Paul, 22, and Maggie, 52, were killed.

The alleged killer, 54, claims he was only ever at the kennels when he got back to find them dead after visiting his mother. He called 911 at 10.07pm.

After 8.49pm, Paul's phone shows no more activity - however, his mother's phone continues to record movement, steps and orientation changes.

Maggie's phone was discovered on a roadside about a quarter mile from the crime scene the after the killings on June 7, 2021. The prosecution suggest that Murdaugh was handling his wife's phone at the murder scene and made a series of calls and texts to the device in order to 'manufacture an alibi.' The defense have rebutted this suggestion, highlighting how steps recorded on Alex's phone do not align with his wife's, so it is not possible he was holding both phones at the same time in the aftermath of the shootings. They claim that orientation changes could be because the phone was taken by assassins who tossed it out of their getaway car. They also say Maggie was running away when she was shot. This could explain the steps recorded at 8.53pm.

The defense have rebutted this suggestion, highlighting how steps recorded on Alex's phone do not align with his wife's, so it is not possible he was holding both phones at the same time in the aftermath of the shootings.

Paul was hit in the chest and head with two shots from a shotgun, while Maggie was found face down after being shot five times with a rifle, with two shots piercing her brain.
