An alleged drunk driver, whose pregnant fiancée died after he smashed their car into a pole while speeding at 100mph in Staten Island, has appeared in court again.
At his first appearance, Adem Nikeziq, 30, broke down when he was told Adriana Sylmetaj, 23, was dead as a result of the Sunday morning crash, which had smashed the Dodge Challenger into three pieces. The woman, along with the couple's unborn child, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nikeziq had been in a wheelchair on that occasion, presumably because of his own injures following the crash.
But on Thursday he was able to stand up on his own.
Nikeziq - who is charged with manslaughter, driving under the influence, criminally negligent homicide and vehicular assault - stood with his head down.
It is understood he was asking for medical care during Thursday's hearing.

Prosecutors previously explained how Sylmetaj was found at the scene when police arrived. She was found at the intersection, with her leg about 20ft from her body.
Her unborn child was ripped from her body and was found 20ft past her leg. She was around six months pregnant and expecting a daughter in April.
Nikeziq claimed that a car had cut him off when he plowed into a utility pole at around 5am on Sunday morning.
His lawyer Mark Fonte said he was the person who told Nikeziq that his fiancée and unborn child had died - as he did not yet know.
He said: 'No one told him that his fiancée and baby had passed.
'When I told him, he broke down crying, sobbing. He was at first completely in disbelief.'
Nikeziq has a checkered driving history, including a 2017 arrest for drunken driving and driving with a suspended license, police sources told the Daily News. In 2019 he was also arrested for driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.
