The incident took place at around 2:04 p.m. at Williamsburg Charter High School on Varet Street, the FDNY said
The school - a community charter high school serving 963 students grades nine through 12 in the greater Brooklyn community - has been cordoned off by the police.
A mother who went to pick up her son at the school briefly spoke to DailyMail.com. She stated it is not the first time it has happened and it is a dangerous area. She declined to give her name.
'I was in my car, waiting for my son to get out of school. I usually park in the street just to wait and all of a sudden, I see a group of kids, maybe seven, come out. They turn the block, they go to the school, they come out, walking fast.'
She then describes one of the security guards shooing the kids away before - after about two minutes - they came back, one of them carrying what she described as a log or a pipe.
'They ran towards somebody in the middle of an intersection and then you just heard three or four shots,' she said.
She said that she knew something was going to happen, but not to that extent, assuming it would just be some sort of fist fight.
