New York City Mayor Eric Adams joined scores of police officers at the funeral of an NYPD cop who was murdered off-duty while trying to buy a car.

Adams appeared alongside hundreds of police officers as the body of 26-year-old Adeed Fayaz was carried by in a flag-draped casket at the Coney Island Avenue service.

The father-of-two's widow attended and broke down in tears as the folded American flag from her husband's casket was folded and handed to her. Mayor Adams said there was 'no word in our vocabulary' to describe the loss of a parent

Fayaz's father spoke, saying through an interpreter he did not want 'parents losing their sons, daughters, kids,' and that he wanted violence to stop with his son.

Officer Fayaz was shot in the head last weekend while trying to buy a car through a Facebook Marketplace listing. His alleged shooter, Randy 'Popper' Jones, 38, appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court and was charged with the first-degree murder.

The married father-of-two was allegedly shot in the head by Jones while trying to purchase a car from Facebook Marketplace on Saturday

Throngs of police officers lined the streets outside the Makki Masjid Muslim Center in Brooklyn as Fayaz's casket was carried to a waiting hearse.

His father, Sadigat Fayaz, broke down and tears and said 'I don't want to see any other parents losing their sons, daughters, kids.'

'I want this to be stopped with my son, here,' he added.

The police officer was remembered as 'the star' not just of his precinct, but also of his family.

Mayor Adams directed his remarks directly to Fayaz's sons, Zayan, 3, and Rayan, 4.

'Adeed leaves behind a family. Not only was he a police officer, but he was a dad,' Adams said, 'My heart goes out to Madiha Sabeel. We will continue to pray and lift you up.'

'Children, there is no story we can give to the loss of a dad. There is no word in our vocabulary that we associate what happens when children lose their parents in this magnitude.'

Fayaz, who served in the NYPD since 2017, traveled with his brother-in-law to meet the seller of a Honda Odyssey at 7pm on February 4.

When they arrived, Jone allegedly pulled a gun on them and demanded the $24,000 cash which had been brought along for the purported car purchase.

Jones allegedly wrestled Fayaz into a headlock, and at some point in the altercation the officer was shot through the head.

Fayaz's brother-in-law then grabbed the off-duty officers gun and shot back at the attacker – missing him but hitting his getaway BMW, which was owned by his mother.

The car was located abandoned in Harlem, near where the suspect lived with his girlfriend.

Jones, who has several previous convictions, was tracked down two days after the incident at a Days Inn hotel in Nanuet in Rockland County on Monday.

It is believed Jones could be behind a similar robbery which took place near the shooting scene on January 13.

Jones has a rap sheet with at least 22 arrests on it for a variety of crimes, including some violent attacks.

He has previously been booked for harassment, grand larceny, and strangulation.

NYPD officers arrested Jones with Fayaz' handcuffs and hauled him back to Brooklyn where he was charged with murder and robbery.

The fallen officer received a traditional 'transfer of remains' ceremony at the hospital, as flags were flown at half-staff at his Borough Park precinct in his honor.

Officers also lined the street as Jones was taken on his perp walk ahead of his arraignment hearing on Wednesday.

The 66th precinct is accepting donations for Fayaz's family, with cash donations being accepted at the precinct.

Bank transfers are also being accepted, with those who want to donate urged to contact the PCT.
