The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are vying for supremacy in the biggest game in football this weekend - but it could be a different city that is the real winner.

The eyes of a nation, and the world, are descending on Glendale, Arizona, and with that global attention comes opportunity. The host city has the chance to put itself on the map, but most importantly for the area, the game is a huge vessel to generate wealth.

Incredibly, Phoenix is expecting a $600million windfall from the upcoming Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium this Sunday.

Last year, the Los Angeles Rams triumphed in their own city over the Cincinnati Bengals in the most recent Super Bowl LVI - making it a double win for LA, in terms of both sporting and commercial success.

While exact figures aren't available, Micronomics Economic Research and Consulting estimated Inglewood and the LA area reported anywhere from $234m to $447m could have been generated for the economy. Similarly, jobs were estimated to be boosted anywhere between 2,200 and 4,700.

Despite playing in the NFL's only COVID-era Super Bowl, Tampa Bay's economy received a welcome shot in the arm in 2021, with a 92 percent hotel occupancy and $14m in revenue from hotels alone.

On Super Bowl Sunday two years ago, the city had the busiest airport in the world with a near-250 percent increase at Tampa International. Its stadium audience was capped at a third of its capacity due to pandemic regulations with only 22,000 allowed to attend.

Miami brought star power to the stage beyond Patrick Mahomes and Jimmy Garoppolo at Super Bowl LIV. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez weren't the only ones profiting from the occasion: South Florida generated $572m from the event.

The wider area hauled in more than double its previous 2010 figure, according to the Host Committee Report. The average spend was $593 per day while in Miami, with 368,011 visitor overnight stays and $34m generated in state and local tax revenue.

Atlanta will forever be woven into the tapestry of the Super Bowl after a defensive masterclass in the infamous Super Bowl LIII of 2019.

Its economic standing lived well beyond the spectacle too, with a 99 percent hotel occupancy lending to the Metro Chamber of Commerce estimate of a $350-400m windfall.

Minnesota made even more than that during Philadelphia's last Super Bowl victory in LII of 2018, hauling in $450m for the Minneapolis economy.

Per the Super Bowl Host Committee report, which included a 10-day period up to, and including, the famous game - it generated $50m more than initial estimations.

Visitors spent an average of $608 per day in Minneapolis, while the average tourist spends just $124 by comparison.

America's fourth-largest city felt a similar impact as Tom Brady and the Patriots completed the greatest Super Bowl comeback ever over a disheveled Atlanta Falcons franchise.

A total of $428m was spent on Super Bowl LI, with the estimated 150,000 visitors contributing to a $347m net economic impact - meaning only dollars spent directly related to the event.

Von Miller may have wreaked havoc in the Bay Area at Super Bowl 50 but the Santa Clara and San Francisco economy was safe from his destruction.  The Bay received a boost to the tune of $240m according to a conservative study led by Sportsimpacts.

Local attendee spending was not taken into account during the analysis and rather, out-of-towners who visited California specifically for Peyton Manning's fairytale finish.

When Phoenix last held a Super Bowl it exploded on a financial scale, not too dissimilar to the minds of many watching Russell Wilson throw from the goal-line to deprive Seattle of another Lombardi Trophy.

A total of $720m was generated for greater Phoenix, according to Arizona State University's School of Business.

Though, a smaller $295m of direct spending occurred leading up to, and including, Super Bowl XLIX.

Unsurprisingly, Seattle's beatdown of Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII was one of the most expensive Super Bowls to date, costing in excess of $100m to host on the outskirts of New York at MetLife Stadium.

Figures of the resultant economic jolt are unavailable but estimates prior to the event said New York and New Jersey would bring in approximately $550-600m.

New Orleans capitalized on the Baltimore-San Francisco Super Bowl in 2013, with $480m spent on the local economy, the University of New Orleans revealed.

Similarly to other previous studies, the calculation only considered spending by those who would not have otherwise spent a dime had the Super Bowl not been in the southern city.

Temporarily, 5,672 jobs were created, with $154m in new income accrued for participants. An additional $262.8m was directly spent by visitors.
