Ron DeSantis' team fired a withering comeback to Democratic NYC Mayor Eric Adams - suggesting he take notes after he fired off a tweet promising to 'teach' the Florida governor 'something about values' during his visit to the city.
Adams welcomed the Florida Governor on Monday through a sarcastic tweet, where he accused him of discriminating against the LGBTQ community and for using 'asylum seekers as props'.
DeSantis' swing through the northeast is fueling speculation that he is inching closer to announcing a bid for president in 2024. His one-day trip will also feature stops in Philadelphia and Chicago.
On Monday in Staten Island, he accused lawmakers in New York and other Democratic enclaves of trying to 'out-woke' each other with policies that have led to a spike in crime and breakdown of law enforcement power.
Earlier, Adams tweeted at him: 'Welcome to NYC, @GovRonDeSantis, a place where we don't ban books, discriminate against our LGBTQ+ neighbors, use asylum seekers as props, or let the government stand between a woman and healthcare. We're happy to teach you something about values while you're here.'

DeSantis' aid Christina Pushaw fired back at the NYC mayor and said he could learn from the Florida governor on how to improve the state
DeSantis' team quickly fired back, with aid Christina Pushaw tweeting: 'Nice rhetoric — but here's reality: More Americans fled NYC than any other metro area last year. More Americans moved to Florida than any other state.
You know this, Mayor Adams, and you've talked (accurately) about crime pushing people out of NYC. Florida's crime rate meanwhile is at a 50 year low. Maybe it's you who can learn from @RonDeSantisFL?'
Pushaw appeared to be referring to the sunny state's 2021 crime figures which showed a total drop in crime by 8.3 percent in comparison to 2020, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Meanwhile, New York City experienced a sharp increase in crime since 2020 leading into 2021, especially in robberies.
Press secretary Bryan Griffin also hit back at Adams, tweeting: 'Based on your policies @NYCMayor, it's fair to assume you value lawlessness & political agendas in classrooms. Based on migration rates out of NY and into FL.
'It's also fair to conclude that many people don't agree with those values. Florida values freedom, life, and truth.'
DeSantis' deputy press secretary also suggested that Adams' take notes while DeSantis is in town - tweeting an image of tents crowding a sidewalk as homelessness runs rampant in the city.
New York City Department of Homeless reported about 68,000 people living in shelters as of November 2022. The number of people living on the street likely raises that figure by thousands.
In 2020, the nationwide homeless count reported 27,487 homeless people in Florida and 161,548 in New York, according to The US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
While DeSantis didn't take a snap back at Adams, he blamed the Democrat mayor for 'putting woke ideology' ahead of safety during his Staten Island appearance.
'The reason why you have what you have in some of these other jurisdictions, is because they're putting woke ideology ahead of your safety – as New Yorkers, as people from Illinois or wherever you have this type of policy taking place,' DeSantis said.

Hundreds of migrants from Cuba and Haiti have flooded Florida's coast while migrants from Mexico and South America consume the borders of Arizona and Texas. Last month alone, more than 1,000 migrants swarmed Florida Keys.
Since last year, several states have bussed migrants to New York City to alleviate the burden for those near the southern border.
Adams previously referred the move as a 'political stunt' by Republican leaders as influx of migrants in the Big Apple eventually led Adams to beg for emergency relief. Last month, the number of asylum seekers in New York City raised to nearly 40,000.
Republican state leaders, including DeSantis, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, decided that they would spread the wealth of the southern border crisis by sending migrants to states and areas that have touted support for sanctuary policies, including New York.
DeSantis previously sent out two planes with about 50 migrants Venezuelan asylum-seekers to the Democratic enclave island of Martha's Vineyard in September.
Earlier this month, he proposed spending $12 million to broaden Florida's migrant flight program to push migrants out of the state.
With New York becoming flooded with migrants, last month Adams submitted an emergency mutual aid request to the state and Governor Kathy Hochul asking for immediate help to house the incoming migrants as the city received about 400 per day.
'All this is pushing New York City to the brink,' Adams said at the time. 'Since last spring, the city has stepped up to welcome approximately 40,000 asylum seekers, providing them with shelter, food, and connections to a host of resources.
'We have opened 74 emergency shelters and four humanitarian relief centers at breakneck speed, and done this almost entirely on our own.'
In October, Adams declared a state of emergency over the influx of migrants in the Big Apple, calling on the Biden administration to help with the $1 billion cost of assisting the asylum seekers.
