Mississippi State pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje entered rare air Wednesday as he pitched with both hands during a contest vs. Louisiana–Monroe - in his first college start, no less.
The ambidextrous freshman lasted four scoreless innings in the appearance, striking out seven and showcasing an ability which a precious few have ever demonstrated at an elite level.
The most well-known both-handed pitcher is Pat Venditte, who played in the MLB from 2015-20 for the A's, Blue Jays, Mariners, Dodgers, Giants and Marlins.
While Venditte finished his career with an unremarkable 4.73 ERA, he made a lasting impact on MLB rules, as the league was forced to respond to his unique skill set.
After a 2008 situation with the Staten Island Yankees where Venditte and Brooklyn Cyclones switch-hitter Ralph Henriquez spent a couple of minutes repeatedly switching their stances before the at-bat, the Professional Baseball Umpires Corporation made some changes to prevent a similar situation.

Known as the 'Pat Venditte Rule', it states any ambidextrous pitcher must declare which hand he will use to pitch before the at-bat starts.
However, the pitcher and batter are both allowed one position change per at-bat after that.
Venditte caught wind of Cijntje's exploits and praised the young pitcher on Twitter.
'Need a breakdown of this,' he said under a video of Cijntje pitching. 'Smooth.'
Aside from Venditte, there are a couple other known names to give switch-pitching a go.

Greg Harris, who spent the vast majority of his career as a right-handed pitcher, switched to his left hand during a 1995 game for the Expos.
Additionally, Tony Mullane, who played a 13-season MLB career in the late 1800's, also alternated hands.
After a successful first start for State, Cijntje will look to follow in Venditte's footsteps to the MLB after being drafted in the 18th round in 2022.
The Bulldogs won Wednesday's contest 14-3.
