Girl fights for life after suffering brain bleed when huge tree fell on her at San Antonio Zoo

A little girl is fighting for her life with a brain bleed after being crushed by a falling tree while spending the day with her family at San Antonio Zoo in Texas. 

Jordyn Rodriguez and her family are among the seven people - including five children - who were rushed to hospital when the huge tree crashed on top of them as they walked by.

The terrifying, bloody aftermath was captured on camera as passersby rushed to help the victims who were squashed underneath the collapsed tree on Wednesday.  

Rodriguez is in critical condition in an intensive care unit at University Medical San Antonio after suffering multiple injuries, including a brain bleed.

Jordyn Rodriguez (pictured bottom right) is the young girl in critical condition. Her whole family were also crushed during the ordeal, but they have described themselves as being banged up and bruised

Her mother, Crystal, was also injured. She described the 'bloody' scene and said the tree came crashing down so fast that there was no time to react.  

Frantic crowds attempted to lift the huge branch and free those trapped underneath before emergency services took the seven people to hospital.

The child, from the Rodriguez family, is in 'level 1 priority care' at the hospital. 

The accident occurred at one of the zoo's busiest times of the year. Witnesses said the attraction was 'packed' with families on the sunny, Spring Break day. 

One terrified witness recorded the ordeal just after midday, and was heard shouting: 'I can't believe we saw that, there are people in there!'  

The Rodriguez family were visiting the zoo during the holidays when the accident occurred. Crystal, Jordyn's mother, said they had been walking on the path when the large tree collapsed on top of them. 

Crystal said: 'There was a lot of blood at the scene, it all happened so fast there was no time to react.'  

The family have described themselves as being 'banged up and bruised' - however their daughter Jordyn is in the worst condition in ICU.

She has suffered a brain bleed from the crashing tree, according to posts online.

Family members have posted images of the child online, strapped up on a gurney as she was wheeled into intensive care.   

In the GoFundMe, a friend of the family wrote: 'Today The Rodriguez family was out for spring break down in San Antonio at the zoo! A large Tree broke off and landed on them. 

'They are all banged up and bruised but Little Jordyn is hurt the worst! She is in ICU with a brain bleed and multiple injuries! 

'We don’t know how long the family will be out of work and what medical treatment they will need! We need to pray for Jordyn. 

'Right now the brain bleed is the main concern. We will keep updates here daily!!' 

According to zoo officials, San Antonio Police and fire officials responded to the scene within minutes.
