Six girls died early Sunday morning when the car they were traveling in hit a barrier and flipped over on a Tennessee highway.
Authorities say the girls were traveling down Interstate 24 West in a five-seater red Toyota Camry with two adults when it suddenly veered off the road and hit a shoulder barrier near Exit 24 in Robertson County at around 2am.
The impact caused the vehicle to flip over, ejecting all six girls and an adult female as it rolled.
The children were then pronounced dead at the scene, while the adult woman was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition and an adult male was transported to another hospital with minor injuries.
Officials have not yet released the names of the victims, but Brent Dyer, chief of the county's emergency management services office, said they range in age from just 1-years-old to 18-years-old.

The interstate was closed for several hours in the aftermath of the deadly crash
Conflicting reports have suggested another black pickup truck about a half-mile down the road from the fatal collision may have been involved.
But authorities say the truck crashed into a concrete barrier on the shoulder underneath a bridge.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is now investigating the cause of the crash.
