South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham joked on Twitter Friday that former President Donald Trump might want to 'smash some windows' and 'punch a cop' if he wants to avoid arrest in New York.
Graham, a Trump Republican ally and golf companion, made the quip on Friday as the president's team and Secret Service were making arrangements for his arrest in Manhattan Tuesday following his indictment for a 'hush' payment scheme with porn star Stormy Daniels.
'How can President Trump avoid prosecution in New York?' Graham asked online with a thinking emoji.
'On the way to the DA’s office on Tuesday, Trump should smash some windows, rob a few shops and punch a cop. He would be released IMMEDIATELY!'
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham tweeted that Trump should smash some windows on the way to seeing the DA if he wants to avoid arrest, after an evening TV appearance where he told people to 'give the president some money'
Graham appeared to be making a joke at the expense of DA Alvin Bragg, who Trump allies have accused of being soft on crime in New York even while pursuing the Trump probe. Trump himself accused Bragg of 'doing Joe Biden's dirty work.'
Trump has long demanded the arrest of lawbreakers in cities like New York and Chicago, even while attacking the FBI and prosecutors he considers part of a 'witch hunt' against him.
At the same time, he opened his rally in Waco, Texas last weekend with the song 'Justice For All,' which features January 6 defendants called the 'J6 Choir' along with a recording of Trump saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Justice Department is prosecuting hundreds of defendants for shattering windows, illegally entering the Capitol, and inuring police officers that day.
Graham's tweet came hours after en evening appearance on Fox News opinion host Sean Hannity's show, where an emotional Graham, who served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps in the Air Force, accused Bragg of 'duplicious (sic) charging' and called the 34-count indictment a 'pile of crap.'
'They're trying to bleed him dry!' he pleaded. 'Give the president some money to fight this bullshit! This is going to destroy America!"
