Texas dad says glitch in 'find my iPhone' app leads people to his home to accuse him of stealing

A Texas father is begging Apple to reconfigure their 'Find My iPhone' app, as a glitch in the system sends people to his home to demand he hand over their missing devices.

Scott Schuster moved into the house in Richmond, a suburb of south western Houston, in 2018.

He said people began arriving on his doorstep immediately, day and night, asking for their missing phones and air pods back.

'I have to wake up and go answer the door and tell people I don't have their device,' he told ABC 13.

'And people don't tend to believe you.'

Schuster, who works as a software engineer, said that he has reported the problem to Apple multiple times, in multiple ways, but the people keep on coming.

He says at least 12 have turned up on his door, and he fears for the safety of his children, aged seven and nine.

'There's plenty of irrational people in the world. And if they're angry, if they're drunk, if they have had a rough night - that's my biggest concern,' said Schuster.

'Potentially someone could come to the house with a weapon.'

Schuster shared footage from his Ring doorbell showing angry people arriving on his door.

'I lost my cell phone, and I clicked Find My iPhone, and it says it was at this address,' one person is heard saying.

Many of them are evidently upset and angry.

One woman threatened to call the police.

'Well, the cops are on the way, so you may want to talk to me before they come here,' she said.

Schuster said his neighbors jokingly call him the local phone thief, but he simply wants the problem dealt with.

'I would just like it fixed,' he said.

'I think my kids would sleep more peacefully at night.'

Apple have yet to comment on the saga, and it's unclear what exactly might be causing it.

Find My iPhone was developed to help people track down mislaid or stolen phones, and lets them track their device on another piece of Apple equipment.

While potentially very useful, cops have warned people not to put themselves in danger by trying to seize goods which may have been stolen back from potentially dangerous thieves.
