Jeopardy! champion Brian Henegar announced on Tuesday that he was bowing to Twitter trolls and quitting the social media site after numerous users compared him to Adolf Hitler.

Henegar, a native of LaFollette, Tennessee, referred to users who likened him to the Nazi dictator as a 'bunch of jerks' who were ruining his celebrations.

'Right now I’m feeling every emotion under the sun reliving my Jeopardy! appearance. And I’m seeing what a bunch of Jerks on Twitter are doing because all they can focus on my looks… So I’m going to be leaving Twitter for a while, see you soon,' he wrote.

So far this week, Henegar has collected nearly $50,000 in prize money, beginning his winning streak on Monday by defeating Crystal Zhao and Amanda Bain Wysocki in Final Jeopardy.

During Monday's appearance, one person tweeted: 'Brian was so excited when he won, he caused quite a führer.'

His final answer in the category of 'Novelist' was: 'A 2012 book review noted subjects that 'sparked his ire:' capital punishment, big tobacco and 'the plight of the unjustly convicted.'

The truck stop customer services worker successfully answered: 'John Grisham.'

'As I believe is slowly dawning on you, you're the new champion. He can't believe it!' Host Ken Jennings said. While Henegar called his victory 'an explosion of every emotion you can imagine.'

On Wednesday, Henegar, 40, wrote that despite the fact that the initial tweets made him 'lose all faith in humanity,' when he saw the messages of support, his faith was 'restored.'

Henegar went on to write that in response to the Hitler comparisons, he would be making a donation to the Anti-Defamation League, the group that fights anti-Semitism. 'That way some good will come from your hate,' he tweeted.

Since the negative remarks about his facial hair, Henegar first said that he planned to shave it off, citing the time it took to keep it looking good, but later said he was opting to grow it out into a goatee.

While another said: 'Okay, this Brian guy on #Jeopardy is channeling some Hitler vibes with his look.'

'*Sigh* I wouldn’t have used the phrase “lightning fast” to describe #Jeopardy champion Brian Henegar’s buzzer skills if I’d realized people were saying he looks like Hitler,' another said.

At least one person, who said that they are a friend of Henegar's, took to Twitter to offer a defense.

'The fact Brian Henegar on Jeopardy! last night is being compared to a historically evil dictator based on his looks is utterly disgusting, bet its because all the haters are jealous of his knowledge…go touch grass…,' the person said.

Henegar also got support from users after his announcement of a donation to the ADL. One user referred to it as a demonstration as 'pure class,' another said that it was the 'perfect response' to the trolls.
