New Jersey girl who hanged herself in school bathroom begged officials for 'safe place' for students

An 11-year-old who hung herself with a scarf in the school bathroom wrote a heartbreaking email to the principal asking for a safe space where students could 'let out their feelings' before her tragic death.

Felicia LoAlbo Melendez was allegedly being bullied at the F.W. Holbein School in Mount Holly, New Jersey, and was grieving the loss of her father when she was found unconscious on February 6.

Now her mother Elaina LoAlbo has revealed the little girl had asked school officials to introduce a 'trauma club' to allow students to share their emotions.

The email, seen by Fox News Digital, reads: 'I was watching TV and thinking about the things in my life that have happened to me. Then, I got a great idea!

'Instead of a drama club, it would be a Trama [sic] club! Trama [sic] is not a light subject to talk about, but I believe that having somewhere that people can go to, destress and let out all of their feelings and emotions.'

Mom Elaina LoAlbo shared the email from the little girl which urged the principal to bring in a 'trauma club' where students could share their feelings

She added: 'Well, I hope that this does happen. I for one have heard from my friends and others about things that have happened to them and I think this would be a fantastic thing. Have a great night.'

The email was addressed to Mr Finn, the school's principal.

The revelation comes after mom Elaina - who has been highly critical of the school's handling of bullying - demanded to see footage from the school proving her daughter took her own life amid concerns there was somebody else involved.

Felicia was found unresponsive in the school bathroom and died two days later in hospital.

Prosecutors concluded the sixth grader died from 'complications of suicide.'

But in an interview with Dailymail.com, Elaina insisted her daughter wanted to go to school that day and was eager to participate in a play.

'I never in a million years would have thought that day would have turned out the way that it did', Elaina told DailyMail.com.

'I wanted her to stay home. I wanted to go get our nails done. And she came into my room that morning. Kissing me goodbye.

'We had plans for her to stay home and she said, "No Mom, I miss too much school. I want to go and be in the play today."

'She had a part in a play I said "Okay, I love you." I kissed her. I asked her to take out the recycling and she skipped to school. It was a day like no other.'

Dailymail.com has reached out to the school for comment.

Without seeing the evidence for herself that Felicia took her own life, grieving Elaina believes it's possible someone else may have been involved in her daughter's death.

'An autopsy performed by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that the manner of death was suicide, and the cause of death was determined to be complications from hanging,' Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office wrote in a press release.

She added Felicia was often 'pushed' around and was once told to 'unalive herself'

'An investigation into the student’s death by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, which included a review of the school’s surveillance cameras, determined that she was alone in the restroom when this tragic action occurred.

'The investigation further determined that no foul play was involved.'

Elaina told the DailyMail.com about her daughter's ongoing battle with bullying that she said had failed to be addressed by the school.

According to Elaina, Felicia regularly saw the school's guidance counselor and a private therapist to grieve through the death of her NJ police investigator father Alexis Melendez, who died of pancreatic cancer in January.

Elaina said that her daughter's private therapist and good 'cancer community' helped her deal with the loss.

A week before Felicia's death, the girl had emailed her school counselor telling them that she was being bullied and the school was breaking laws by not addressing it, Elaina claims.

But the counselor allegedly responded by calling mom Elaina to 'reprimand' her and to tell the middle schooler to 'watch her language,' she claims.

The case echoes that of 14-year-old New Jersey schoolgirl Adriana Kuch who committed suicide days after a TikTok video showed her being attacked by four other students.

The Central Regional School District in Bayville, New Jersey, came under fire for its handling of the case.

In February superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides was forced to step down from his role after Dailymail.com launched a heartless smear campaign against the girl's family, claiming she had been offered counselling for 'drugs.'
