Prince George will be one of four Pages of Honour supporting King Charles III and Queen Camilla the day of the coronation.

Aged only nine, Charles' grandson is both the most notable,and youngest, page of honour chosen by the King and Queen Consort.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said of the arrangement, which was announced last week: ‘We’re all very excited about Prince George’s role in the Coronation, it will be an incredibly special moment.’

The Prince and Princess of Wales were reportedly touched that the King wanted his grandson to play such a significant role, but wanted to ensure that nine-year-old George felt up to the public scrutiny.

But after discussions with their eldest son and future monarch, they felt happy he would rise to the occasion. He will join three other pages during the upcoming ceremony.

Meghan Markle was 'never likely' to attend the Coronation of King Charles III, sources close to those planning the event have said, after she was put in an 'impossible situation' by the royal family.

Prince Harry is understood to have gone through weeks of negotiations with Buckingham Palace over the event, including going over arrangements for security and concerns over reception from his family. 

Buckingham Palace announced the news that Harry would be in the UK for the ceremony in a statement yesterday, saying it was 'pleased to confirm' the Duke of Sussex will be at Westminster Abbey on May 6. 

Meghan will stay at home at the couple's residence in Montecito with one-year-old Lilibet and Archie, whose fourth birthday is on the same day as the ceremony.

A royal source told the Mirror: 'The truth of the matter is the Duchess was never likely to attend the coronation.'

Prince Harry delayed replying to the invitation to the Coronation because he was 'preoccupied' by where he would have to sit, sources have indicated.

It was one of the reasons he was so late in confirming his decision to attend the crowning of his father King Charles III at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

Neither Buckingham Palace nor a legal representative for the Duke of Sussex responded to a request for comment today. But more than one source has confirmed to the Mail that there have been 'extensive discussions' between London and California over the issue.

One said: 'Harry's side was keen to find out, presumably because they wanted to rubber-stamp it, what the seating plan at the Abbey is. There's been extensive back and forth about who they [Harry and Meghan] would be sitting behind if they came. And who would be behind them.'

Harry was apparently quite preoccupied by this particular detail, the source said.

The King appeared delighted as he was presented with a £5 coin from a Coronation commemorative range featuring his crowned portrait for the first time. 

Charles, 74, curiously examined the currency - the first to be struck - while meeting with the Royal Mint's executive officer, Anne Jessopp and director, Rebecca Morgan, who stopped by for a visit at Windsor Castle.

The monarch, who will officially be crowned next month, wore a grey spring suit as he took in the collection, which includes a 50p, and will be released later this month ahead of the May 6 celebration.

The King's effigy, which was designed by artist and sculptor Martin Jennings and is emblazoned on the highly collectible coins, depicts him wearing the Tudor Crown.

The crown was personally selected by the King for the portrait despite it no longer existing, having been destroyed in the 1640s.

Here's some news to make the Coronation even more of a celebration for King Charles — it can be revealed that Prince Andrew will NOT be writing a tell-all memoir after all.

There was speculation the Duke of York would offer an account of his life story in print, particularly after the incredible financial success of Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare and his straitened circumstances following the death of the Queen. Author Daphne Barak was tipped to be his ghost writer.

However, I’m told that the idea is a non-runner. A source indicates: ‘There are no plans for a book and never have been. The Duke has had a non-existent profile since Newsnight precisely so as not to damage the institution . . . he would never do anything to deliberately damage the family.’

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen from the legendary boyband have been rehearsing for their upcoming performance at Hyde Park on July 1 in recent weeks and fans are already gearing up for that.

The One Show star Alex Jones has revealed her hilarious - and extremely stinky - gaffe when she first met King Charles. 

The TV host, 46, spoke on Thursday's This Morning about the moment she met the monarch, then Prince Charles, during her early career when she worked as a runner, doing research for a TV production company in her native Wales. 

The King was leading an opening ceremony for a new grant the company received to give young people in disadvantaged areas of Wales opportunities to work in media.

King Charles has only rehearsed his coronation once - and not in his ceremonial robes, it was claimed today.

A pair of chairs made for the coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth II have emerged for sale for £7,000.

Two guests in the congregation sat on the limed oak and beach seats at the momentous 1953 event.

The 33ins high, 19ins wide, 17ins deep chairs were upholstered in a blue velvet embroidered with the Royal cipher.

They were made by W Hands & Sons, of High Wycombe, Bucks.

In total, 2,000 chairs and 5,700 stools were fashioned for Elizabeth's ascension to the throne.

Guests were given the option of buying the seats they sat on, but they rarely come on to the market.

These chairs are stamped 'W Hands & Son Ltd 1953' and are numbered 366 and 420.

They have belonged to a British private collector for two decades who acquired them from the family of the people who sat in them.

The chairs are going under the hammer at Chiswick Auctions, of West London.

Also in the sale, a pair of chairs made for George VI's 1937 coronation, upholstered in green velvet, are valued at £3,000.

A set of more rudimentary-looking wooden chairs for George V's 1911 coronation are tipped to go for £2,000.

Valentina Borghi, specialist at Chiswick Auctions, said: 'The Elizabeth II chairs have faded upholstery but they are still in good condition.

'I believe the vendor got them two decades ago from the estate of the people they originally belonged to.

'It is exciting to have these pieces of history which are of interest to Royal collectors, particularly in the lead up to the coronation.'

Elizabeth II's coronation took place on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey and was watched by 27 million people in Britain on TV.

The coronation of her son King Charles III takes place on May 6.

The sale is on May 4.

The mother of Princess Beatrice's stepson has said she would 'love to have dinner with Oprah' because she 'would have great gossip' and 'give good advice about standing your ground'.

Dara Huang, who is a Harvard-educated architect who has her own design firm and the mother of Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's six-year-old son Wolfie, revealed the media mogul would be her 'dream dinner party guest.'

Speaking to The Times, the architect said: 'I would love to have dinner with Oprah Winfrey. I feel as if she would give great advice about life, love, business, being a minority and standing your ground. 

'And great gossip about celebrities — just kidding! She’s like a book of wisdom. She has it all figured out.'

Dara's comments appear particularly poignant given Oprah sat down together with Meghan Markle for a bombshell interview in March 2021.

The Queen Consort will use a controversial ivory sceptre in the coronation ceremony, Buckingham Palace has confirmed, despite risking a potential backlash among wildlife campaigners.

Camilla will be crowned alongside her husband the King on May 6, during an ancient ceremony at Westminster Abbey featuring deeply symbolic objects representing the royal duties and responsibilities of the sovereign.

Chef and TV presenter Ainsley Harriott hailed the power of food to bring communities together as he knocked on doors to hand out invitations to a local Coronation Big Lunch.

The Big Lunch ambassador, known for hosting twenty-one series of Ready, Steady, Cook, joined the street party planning around Richmond, south-west London, by knocking on doors and posting invitations.

Thousands of street parties are expected to be held during the coronation weekend, with people encouraged to come together across the country for the Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday May 7.

Harriott, 66, said: 'What I've discovered more and more over the years is how important food is to bring people together, it's part of the social glue.

'If you can share a bit of cake or sandwiches, it's another extension of friendship, and a way of showing that you trust your neighbours.'

While he invited residents in Grosvenor Gardens, East Sheen, to the coronation festivities, Harriott added: 'One of the most important things about longevity in life is feeling a part of your community.'

'We have gone through a period when everybody just became a little bit selfish - this coronation is an opportunity for us to address those things, to show our human sides and look out for our neighbours.'

Harriott praised the variety of cuisines that are available now, and highlighted the learning opportunities that could come from inviting neighbours to a Big Lunch and contributing dishes from your culture.

'It's a brilliant opportunity for cultures and generations to come together and to make a difference, to unify us, to make us all realise this beautiful multicultural world that we're living in and to appreciate each other,' he said.

He added: 'Open up, don't be afraid of different kinds of food, try each other's cooking and learn their stories.'

He said his coronation plans will likely involve a street party, and his contribution to the spread would be some butternut squash sausage rolls.

'It's really super delicious even for those who are meat eaters, but for those that are vegetarians it just crosses every boundary.

'And I think when you invite everyone, then it's just nice to have something that everybody feels comfortable eating,' he said.

Sarah Mountcastle, 51, who was joined by Harriott to distribute invitations to her community's Big Lunch, said: 'It's absolutely brilliant to have Ainsley's help to get our invites out.

'We love our Big Lunch street parties and we never want anyone to miss out.

'If you're thinking about organising a Coronation Big Lunch, just do it, don't overthink it and have fun, just take the chance to talk to your neighbours, and just get to know each other.'

The Big Lunch is a community celebration run by the Eden Project and funded by the National Lottery. It takes place annually in June, but has been moved to May this year to coincide with the coronation.

Lindsey Brummitt, programme director at the Eden Project, said: 'What's exciting about being a central part of the coronation celebrations is that people will be in that mindset of coming together.

'They've got time off over a long weekend and it's a really lovely way to mark a moment in our history, whether you're into the royal family or not.'

She added that it was fantastic to have Ainsley Harriott on board, and praised the warm reception that many of those invited had given to the Big Lunch.

'Every single person I've spoken to who has organised a Big Lunch said how surprised they are at the positive response, and for anyone who's nervous, start small, just pop a few invitations through doors and see what happens,' she said.

Prince William and Prince Harry have paid tribute to 'inspirational' charity co-founder Bryn Parry following his death at the age of 67.

Prince William, 41, said he was 'deeply saddened' to hear of Mr Parry's death following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Writing on Twitter, he praised the Help for Heroes co-founder and cartoonist for his 'life-affirming work'.

Meanwhile the Duke of Sussex also paid tribute on Twitter to to Mr Parry, in a statement made through his Invictus Games Foundation.

Security measures for the King's coronation will be assessed on a 'case-by-case basis', policing minister Chris Philp said when asked about the potential cost in light of the Duke of Sussex's decision to attend.

Asked about whether there would be a significant additional cost due to the duke's attendance, Mr Philp said: 'I'm not going to get into people's individual protection arrangements, but by the way we're providing protection for hundreds of foreign heads of state, overseas heads of state who are attending as well.'
