I'm a cleaning influencer - here's how to de-grime your washing machine

A cleaning enthusiast has revealed how often your washing machine needs to be cleaned out - and it's more regular than you might think. 

Jessica May, a cleaning influencer from Norfolk, East Anglia, made a video for her TikTok followers where she shared the importance of a good cleanse. 

Jessica says that it's recommended to clean your washing machine once a month, because it helps to avoid bacteria growth, bad smells and residue. 

She started the 48-second video by taking out the detergent drawer and placing it into a tub of warm soapy water.

She then used a sponge to wipe all the dirty brown residue off the drawer that had built up over washes.

She then showed how dirty the inside of the machine is when the drawer has been taken out and used Flash bicarbonate of soda spray to clean it. 

After a few sprays, Jessica used an electric brush cleaning device to scrub the inside of the machine. 

Using the same spray, she sprayed the inside of the drum before wiping it down with a cloth. 

Jessica takes out the detergent drawer out of her machine and places it into some soapy water before giving it a good scrub with a sponge 

The cleaning guru wrote on her video: 'A simple way to clean your washing machine drum is to run a hot wash with a capful of white vinegar and a scoop of bicarbonate of soda.'

She then took a separate sponge to wipe the inside of the rubber flap of the washing machine drum - usually where items of clothing get stuck or dirt and residue builds up.

Jessica then placed a cloth on the floor of her kitchen before taking out the filter of the machine - which released water and some dirt.

She sprays some Flash bicarbonate of soda spray to clean the washing machine drum and then wipes it down with a cloth

Jessica also uses an electric cleaning brush to get off all the dirt inside her washing machine 

Jessica tells her followers not to forget to take out the filter and give it a good old clean as well

She then puts some washing machine cleaner powder in her detergent drawer and puts the machine on a wash cycle 

She wrote: 'Don't forget to clean your filter.'

She then put the filter in some warm soapy water to clean it before popping it back into the machine.

After she dried the washing machine drawer compartment, she slotted this back into the machine too. 

Jessica then grabbed some washing machine cleaner powder and put it into the detergent drawer and set it on a wash cycle.
