The California Highway Patrol has notified lawmakers in Sacramento of a credible threat involving the Capitol.

The CHP and other security officers are surrounding the Capitol and have instructed lawmakers and staff who are not yet at the Capitol building to work from home today.

As a result, the floor session of California's State Senators scheduled for this morning was delayed and lawmakers have been told to check in for session in a different building.

Lawmakers and staffers who are already at work were told to remain in place until more information becomes available.

Legislators and their staffs were told they would be able to reenter the building at around 10am.

Security officers were seen turning people away at the door of the Capitol. Though, the scene remains quiet for now and business is resuming in a separate building.

Meanwhile, a protest taking place on the west side of the building is going on as planned.

Local reports suggest that the threat may stem from a shooter in Kaiser Roseville, who last night threatened to shoot up the California State Capitol.

Wednesday night, the Kaiser Permanente hospital birthing center in Roseville was struck by gunfire just before 9pm.

No one was hit and no injuries were reported - the lockdown at the hospital was lifted shortly after 10pm. No suspect information was released.

It was later confirmed that there had been an earlier shooting in Citrus Heights that is connected to the Kaiser shooting.

About 15 minutes before the Roseville shooting, an unknown individual was traveling in a vehicle along Auburn Boulevard, when they reportedly fired multiple shots. The vehicle was then reported to have continued on to Roseville.

No injuries were reported and no buildings were hit in Citrus Heights.
