Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass caused a fiercely-contested debate on social media this week and is now at the butt of jokes resultantly.
Bass posted a Twitter photo on Sunday of his two toddler daughters on a flight with popcorn strewn on the floor below, explaining a United flight attendant 'made' his wife clean up.
While facing his former team - the Astros - on Monday night, Bass received an ostensibly cheeky jibe by Houston announcer Geoff Blum, who said the Michigan man had come on the mound to 'try and clean it up.'
Seemingly, this was a reference to the Twitter post which sparked contrasting opinions online.
'The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a five year old and two year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter,' Bass tweeted, before adding: 'Are you kidding me?!?!'

Of course, Blum could have been referring to the predicament facing Bass as he took the mound -- with the 'Stros up 8-1 and a runner on third base.
In response to backlash he received from the initial post, Bass highlighted that it was United Airlines who provided the popcorn not his wife.
The six-foot-two righty then posted an update informing his followers that 'United Airlines is taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally.'
The father-of-two added thereafter: 'Thank you everyone for the support.' His final post regarding the topic was a photo of one of his joyous daughters alongside a large bag of popcorn.
DailyMail.com has reached out to United Airlines for a comment.
While Bass expressed his outrage over the situation, a section of Twitter users called him out and said that it was his responsibility as a parent to clean up the floor, not the cabin crew's
