When tech mogul Bob Lee was stabbed in a posh San Francisco enclave in early April, people assumed rising crime rates in the city were to blame for what appeared to be a random act of violence.

It came as a shock to many when an acquaintance of the CashApp co-founder, 38-year-old Nima Momeni, was arrested and charged with his murder.

Both prosecutors and Momeni's defense team agree that the victim and his alleged killer knew each other through Momeni's sister, Khazar Elyassnia, who has been friends with Lee for many years.

'Bob Lee and his sister definitely knew each other,' said Paula Canny, Momeni's lawyer in a recent interview with the NYPost'There's a group of well-to-do young people who liked to party.'

According to court documents, Elyassnia and Lee spent time together the day he was stabbed to death and prosecutors say their interaction prompted a dispute between Momeni and Lee.

Witnesses told police that the suspect was seen allegedly grilling Lee about whether Elyassnia had been 'doing drugs or anything inappropriate.' Prosecutors believe that dispute carried over into the evening and turned fatal.

'The defendant not only drove the victim to a secluded area in the opposite direction of his hotel but brought a kitchen knife with him. Defendant did not use some type of pocket knife, but a cooking knife from an apartment and kitchen,' read a court document.

Momeni is due back in court for his arraignment April 25.

Watch the video below in which we untangle the mystery and a possible motive.
