The creators and stars of Beef have spoken out in support of co-star and graffiti artist David Choe after clips of a disturbing nine-year old podcast discussion resurfaced following the show's debut.

Following his appearance in the new hit Netflix show, a controversial telling of an alleged sexual encounter with a massage therapist, revealed during a March 2014 episode of his now-cancelled podcast DVDASA, went viral Monday and saw Choe using copyright law to take down clips

In a joint statement, Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and co-stars fellow executive producers Ali Wong and Steven Yeun say that they believe Choe made up the story and while they don't condone it, they support him.

'The story David Choe fabricated nine years ago is undeniably hurtful and extremely disturbing,' the statement reads.'

'We do not condone this story in any way, and we understand why this has been so upsetting and triggering. We're aware David has apologized in the past for making up this horrific story, and we've seen him put in the work to get the mental health support he needed over the next decade to better himself and learn from his mistakes.'

Following his appearance in the new hit Netflix show, a controversial telling of an alleged sexual encounter with a massage therapist, revealed during a March 2014 episode of his now-cancelled podcast DVDASA, went viral Monday.

Choe, who hosted the installment, bullishly claimed to have intimately touched the female masseuse without her consent before demanding she perform a sex act on him.

Aura Bogado, a writer who tweeted out the clip, wrote Monday afternoon: 'David Choe wrote to Twitter to get the video I posted of him talking about the woman he says he raped taken down on copyright grounds. He claims his *nonprofit* owns the copyright to the video of him talking about the alleged rape.'

Choe's non-profit, The David Young Choe Foundation, is cited as he owner of the clip in the claim.

Writer Meecham Whitson Meriweather said that his account had been temporarily locked by the social media app after posting the clip, using the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

That law allows copyright owners to force the removal of media if they're in violation of their copyright.

Choe has yet to comment, but Merriweather told Vice that he believes the artist may have gone after him because they were making the most noise about the video.

'Maybe because we were the most vocal about it and we're the ones getting the most traffic?' Meriweather said. 'Not sure - but the video isn't monetized and his reasoning for getting it taken down was pathetic.'

In the clip, Choe gave a vivid description of forcing the woman massaging him to give him oral sex even though she had 'given me no signs that she's into me or that this is appropriate behavior'.

Choe added that the 'thrill of possibly going to jail, that's what achieved the erection quest'.

When his co-hosts pointed out his behavior was akin to rape, the artist had joked that 'she said yes with her eyes.'

During the episode, the actor also claimed to be sexually aroused while recounting the alleged sordid encounter in a Los Angeles health spa.

But after furious backlash and accusations of rape, he later admitted he had made the story up.

The viral clip has since recirculated across various online forums following his appearance as lead actor Steven Yeun's criminally minded cousin in Beef

In response to the accusations that he was guilty of rape, Choe released a statement to Gawker saying he had made up the story as an extension to his edgy art.

'I never thought I'd wake up one late afternoon and hear myself called a rapist. It sucks. Especially because I am not one. I am not a rapist. I hate rapists, I think rapists should be raped and murdered.' he said.

'If I am guilty of anything, it's bad storytelling in the style of douche. Just like many of my paintings are often misinterpreted, the same goes with my show.'

The statement added: 'The main objective of all of my podcasts is to challenge and provoke my friends and the co-stars on the show ... It's a dark, tasteless, completely irreverent show.'

The artist had been harassed online for his tale, with some concerned listeners even reaching out to Vice magazine, which he contributed to.

One of them, Darn Small, posted on the Vice Facebook page: 'Out of curiosity, what do you make of this story by David Choe ... is he admitting to raping a girl? I feel quite uneasy after listening to this.'

Awkward: But Choe's appearance in the show follows his telling of a sexual encounter with a massage therapist, revealed during a 2014 episode of his now-cancelled podcast, DVDASA
