Zach Wilson once said that if the Jets sign a new quarterback, he'll 'make that dude's life hell in practice every day'. But Wilson didn't know they were going to sign Aaron Rodgers.

And as Rodgers arrives in New York ahead of his official unveiling on Wednesday afternoon, he has signaled that he is relishing the challenge from Wilson.

Rodgers liked a tweet from Barstool Sports republishing Wilson's now infamous quotes as he gets set to start a new chapter in his remarkable career.

Wilson himself has not commented on the move but has previously underlined his admiration of Rodgers.

Speaking last October, Wilson said: 'I've been watching him since I was a little kid, trying to replicate the way he throws, the way he plays the game.

'We didn't have an NFL team in Utah. I wouldn't say I was a Packers fan. I was just an Aaron Rodgers fan. I grew up watching him.

'I always liked watching their games because of him and kind of where he was at. He was a quarterback I tried to replicate and steal things from.'

Jets GM Joe Douglas said on Tuesday Wilson will get better from working with Rodgers.

'I think this is going to be a great thing for Zach,' Douglas said of his backup quarterback -- the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 Draft.

'Zach's ceiling is unlimited. The opportunity to shadow and be with a first-ballot Hall of Fame QB will be a great opportunity and experience.'

Douglas was also thrilled at the prospect of Rodgers leading the Jets in the 2023 season.

'Ultimately [we have] been able to get what we feel is a historic trade for this franchise,' Douglas told reporters Tuesday.

'Aaron's one of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game and to have an opportunity to add a player of that caliber, you're always going to look into it.

'We're all excited to add someone of his character and his ability.'

New York will receive not only Rodgers but the Packers' No. 15 pick and a fifth-rounder in Thursday's NFL Draft, when the deal is ratified.

In exchange, Green Bay acquire the Jets' 13th overall draft choice, plus its second and sixth-rounder, and a conditional 2024 second-round pick, which will become a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of snaps this season.

'We're comfortable with how this deal is shaped,' Douglas said. 'In any negotiation, I don't think anyone walks away where you feel you won everything. But ultimately our goal from the beginning was to add Aaron to the team.'
