The neighbor of a Detroit neurosurgeon who was fatally shot and discovered in mysterious circumstances revealed those that knew the top doctor had 'nothing but good things to say about him.'

No arrests have yet been made since Devon Hoover, 53, was shot dead and wrapped in a plastic sheet before being stuffed into the attic of his $1.2m mansion.

His former neighbor, Roland Radinski, who lives in a $3.2 million home built by K-Mart founder SS Kresge on Hoover's opulent street, told DailyMail.com he 'never had an argument' with the surgeon in 15 years of knowing him.

An outpouring of grief has been seen in the days following Hoover's killing, with many questioning how the beloved doctor could be the victim of such a gruesome tragedy.

'He was a great neighbor,' said Radinski, who added that he hasn't been questioned by authorities, which he believes is due to cops having 'a likely suspect'.

Radinski lived next to Dr Hoover for over 15 years in the historic Boston-Edison district, one of Detroit's most lucrative areas.

The opulent street is one of the most upscale neighborhoods in the city, and according to its website numerous Michigan celebrities including heavyweight boxer Joe Louis and baseball star Willie Horton have lived there.

Hoover's gruesome death has shocked the sleepy street, with Radinski telling DailyMail.com the community was experiencing 'sadness for loss of a nice neighbor and good surgeon.'

'I have several friends that were patients of Dr Hoover and they were shocked by his untimely death,' he continued. 'They also had nothing, but good things to say about him.'

Radinski's home in the plush neighborhood was originally constructed by SS Kresge, whose supermarket stores eventually became K-Mart. As one of the most lavish mansions in Michigan, the home captured headlines in 2020 after hitting the property market for $3.25 million.

Few details have been released regarding the top neurosurgeon's death, however police reportedly visited the home after he failed to show up for a family party.

A subsequent welfare check on his home saw cops discover his body in the attic of his home, stuffed in a sheet with a single gunshot wound to the head.

The Detroit Police Department told DailyMail.com the homicide unit is investigating his death, but no arrests have yet been made.

Police believe the killing may have resulted from a domestic incident that turned deadly.

No motive has also been revealed for the killing of the Ascension Michigan Hospital doctor, who is thought to have lived alone.

Hoover was regarded as one of the top medical professionals in the state, and was previously named in Hour Detroit Magazine as one of the leading neurological surgeons in Detroit in 2008.

Another of Hoover's neighbors, Jonathan Shearrod, told Detroit News: 'It's going to take some time to wrap your head around what has happened.'

He said that the renowned neurosurgeon was an 'anchor of the block' and was 'extremely involved in the neighborhood', regularly hosting parties and functions in his lavish home.

'I just can't imagine anyone experiencing that in their home or just having to face that kind of terror where you live.'

Those who lived on the plush Detroit street alongside Hoover have routinely described him in glowing terms, with another neighbor saying: 'He was an incredibly nice man.

'He made you feel so special - when we talked I felt 100 percent of his focus... he always left you lifted and better than he found you.'

According to Law and Crime, Hoover's since-removed profile on his hospital website said he had 'a special interest in the treatment of neck and back disorders'.

The biography said after completing his medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine, his residency was concluded at Hendry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

'He also completed fellowships, one in peripheral nerve surgery at Louisiana State University School of Medicine with Dr. David Kline, and one in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital of Michigan with pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Alexa Canady,' the bio adds.

Ascension Michigan Hospital said in a statement: 'Devon Hoover, MD, was a dedicated and well-respected member of the Ascension Michigan family and will be greatly missed by our community.

'Our sincerest condolence and heartfelt prayers are with his family, friends and fellow associated during this incredibly difficult time.'

A dedicated Facebook page titled 'Justice for Dr. Devon Hoover' has attracted hundreds of posts paying tribute to the 'wonderful' doctor.

'Rest In Peace beautiful and kind soul. You will forever be missed. You taught me how to love Neuro surgery working alongside you in the operating room,' wrote one of his colleagues.

'Your patience was unmatched. Prayers to your family and all those that knew you. We are devastated that we have lost you! May your legacy and love for surgery forever live in those that were touched by your presence in this world.'

'Last weekend, we lost a beloved colleague,' added another Ascension Hospital colleague. 'A very talented doctor... a man who no one can say anything bad about. He was a true gentleman. He was genuine and loved to help people'.

A former patient added in a separate post that Hoover was regarded as 'the best' and was 'not like most surgeons'.

'He said he would not operate unless absolutely necessary,' she continued. 'Always so wonderful, knowledgeable and supportive. We are so very devastated for his family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace.'

'I am beyond disbelief of how such a horrific tragedy could happen to such a gentle, brilliant soul,' said another.

'God bless you, Dr Hoover... I will never forget your kindness and respect.'
