Blue Jays pitcher Jay Jackson reveals he was 'tipping the pitch' while facing Yankees' Aaron Judge

Blue Jays righty Jay Jackson has admitted he was giving signs of pitches to come while up against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees Monday night.

Jackson, who has since returned to Triple A, said he was tipping pitches amid inferences Judge could have been cheating.

The AL MVP was looking back-and-forth between the Yankees dugout prior to smashing a homer off Jackson. The topic was amplified by the Blue Jays' broadcast, who questioned what Judge was looking at - and of course, social media.

Though, Jackson had a much simpler explanation. 'From what I was told, I was kind of tipping the pitch,' Jackson told The Athletic Tuesday night.

'It was the time it was taking me from my set position, from my glove coming from my head to my hip.

'On fastballs, I was kind of doing it quicker than on sliders. They were kind of picking up on it.'

The report cites several Toronto sources who claim Jackson's grip on the baseball was 'visible to Yankees first base coach Travis Chapman.'

Blue Jays manager John Schneider spoke pregame Tuesday, saying it was 'fair' if New York were picking up on tells from his pitchers.

Following the 462-foot home run - and the Yankees 7-4 win - Judge told media Monday night he was merely looking at his dugout due to the noise emanating from there.

Communication with coaches from one's own dugout is not impermissible in MLB. In the wake of the Astros' cheating scandal, in which they used electronic equipment to steal signs, has raised the antennas of both fans and sections of media.

'If they knew it was coming and he clipped me, [then] he clipped me,' Jackson told The Athletic. 'I'm glad he hit it as far as he did.'

The Blue Jays contacted MLB Tuesday and are apparently scrutinizing where Yankees base coaches were positioned.

'There's boxes on the field for a reason,' Blue Jays manager John Schnieder said.

Coaches angling for a better view and in turn, moving outside the box, is nothing new in the major leagues.

Toronto and New York continued their best-of-four series Tuesday night. The Yankees won the second consecutive contest 6-3, behind homers from Judge, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Jose Trevino and Aaron Hicks.

The teams play once again Wednesday night at the Rodgers Centre in Toronto.
