It'll soon be payday for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, with the elite passer in talks over a contract extension with his current team.
As Burrow enters the final year of his rookie deal, the former AFC Champion says he's actively a part of the process, but declined to tell reporters on Tuesday.
'I'm involved. That's in the works,' Burrow said. 'That's not really something that I like to play out in the media. Just the way I think they want to do business, I want to do business, we prefer to keep that between us.'
Whatever details eventually get hammered out, Burrow is due for a big check after this offseason saw a multiple quarterbacks get massive extensions.
Those numbers could be an indicator of what Burrow could fetch in his contract negotiations - with a quarterback of his talent likely to fetch at least $200m.
Joe Burrow is set for a big pay day as the Bengals QB's rookie contract about to expire
Just this offseason, contemporaries Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts got $250m+ extensions
If Burrow wanted to ink a longer deal than that, he could look at Patrick Mahomes' $450m deal
Considering the company he's in, he'll likely grab more than that. Comparable quarterbacks include Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts.
Jackson recently inked a five-year, $260million contract that sees him become the best paid player in the NFL by average annual value.
Contemporaries Allen (6-year, $258m), Murray (5-year, $230m), and Hurts (5-year, $255) also represent the ballpark Burrow could find himself in.
If the Bengals truly believe in Burrow being their quarterback for the next decade, they could take the gamble the Chiefs did on Patrick Mahomes - when they made him the best paid NFL player ever through a 10-year, $450m deal.
This all comes after a stellar 2022 for Burrow, which he believes was the best show he's put on in the NFL so far.
'I think I had my best year last year,' he said, analyzing it further by saying he 'became more aware of situational football, aware of when I can take a sack, when I can't, finding the back, when maybe I can make a play in a certain moment when a different part of the game I would not try to make that play. I think I took strides there, and I think there are more strides to take in that area.'
