Francis searched desperately through the debris on Thursday morning for anything that would remind her of her daughter.
She continued: 'My life will never be the same without Fortune. Fortune is a sweetheart. She's a loving, caring child.'
Francis also told the news site that she was working when the tragedy happened, and that Fortune had gone out with a friend in their car.
Police are now investigating why the 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel with another minor. The NYPD says he was driving with a Learner's Permit and speeding.
