Beau Mann's heartbroken fiancé says LAPD 'dropped the ball' in finding body of tech CEO

The fiancé of late tech executive Beau Mann, whose remains were found earlier this month, a full 18 months after he was last seen, slammed authorities for dropping the ball when investigating his disappearance.

The 39-year-old's body was found just 1,000 feet from his last known location in Santa Monica, California. He vanished in November 2021 after being dropped off close to an apartment building. 

Mann's fiancé, Jason Abate, told the US Sun that law enforcement 'didn't even handle it.'

'I think that's because they assumed he was just a drug addict and gay and they didn't care,' he said.

Mann was an LA based businessman who ran a company called Sober Grid, an app that provided resources for those attempting to be sober all over the world.

Mann was last seen here, in the courtyard of an abandoned property along the 2900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard in Santa Monica 

Beau Mann was last seen at around 2pm on November 30, 2021, on camera at a 7-Eleven near the offices of Sober Grid.

Mann then got in an Uber, and while inside the vehicle he texted 911.

He was dropped off in Santa Monica and never seen again.

Earlier this month, Santa Monica police confirmed that human remains found in an abandoned apartment building were those of Mann. His cause of death remains unclear.

Nearly a year and a half later, human remains were discovered in an abandoned apartment building by a homeless man, according Abate.

After months of being involved with an online amateur detectives, Abate received an anonymous tip that he then reported to Crime Stoppers.

Shortly after the tip was reported, officials were able to determine that the skeletal remains found in Santa Monica were Mann's.

Abate expressed fury that it took the police more than a year to discover the body that was just 1,000 feet away from where the tech CEO had been dropped off.

'It didn't seem like they took it very seriously at all,' Abate said, adding that missing persons cases are not prioritized by law enforcement.

The Santa Monica Police Department has now taken over the case and told The sun that they are investigating all potential possibilities, including homicide.

'SMPD detectives are in the process of combing through all the evidence collected as of today and exploring the possibility, as we always do,' said SMPD's Erika Aklufi.

'We owe it to victims and their families and friends to make sure that our work is done correctly and completely.'

While the circumstances around Mann's death remain mysterious, Abate admitted that his fiancé may have relapsed.

However, he added that the drugs Mann used did not often cause overdoses unless they were laced.

'Beau was very careful if he relapsed. He took himself to the hospital,' said Abate.

'Beau was a scaredy-cat. While he would help anybody I know, he would not wind up in a situation, in a place, that he was found at his own doing,' added Abate, saying that his partner would not likely have ended up in the run down building of his own accord.

Abate, on the other hand, alleged Mann was responsible when he relapsed, and would check himself into a hospital

Abate has said that he last spoke with Mann the night before he returned to Los Angeles and disappeared. He had spent Thanksgiving 2021 with family in Texas.

Abate, who lives in Michigan, raised the alarm when Mann suddenly stopped replying to his calls and messages.

He said it was not unusual for the busy tech executive to go a day or so without replying, but when time passed, he became alarmed.

Abate called the LAPD, who met Mann's assistant at his apartment to do a wellness check.

The assistant filed a missing persons' report on December 4, 2021.
