Tina Turner died at the age of 83 on Wednesday and tributes poured in. The rock icon is known for her string of hits and her decades of entertaining fans through her music. 

Her career began in 1957 and went on until she retired from the stage in 2009. 

Turner was an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and she has sold more than 100 million records across the globe. She has also won 12 Grammys.

Beyone, like many singers, followed in Turner's footsteps in the music industry. 

'My beloved queen. I love you endlessly,' she wrote. 'I'm so grateful for your inspiration, and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strength and resilience. You are the epitome of power and passion.'

In 2019, Tina Turner looked frail in one of her final public appearances when she attended the Broadway premiere of the musical about her life. 

She was pictured sitting in most photos from the event and had help from her husband, Erwin Bach, and Oprah Winfrey while walking the red carpet.

After news of her death, some of the superstar's past interviews are resurfacing across social media, including her iconic 1986 Rolling Stone interview. 

'I won’t stop until I get that respect. I may not ever get it completely, because my life has been too hard so far,' she said at the time. 'But I’ve gotten a taste of what that respect is probably like, and I like it.'

Former President Barack Obama posted his condolences on social media after the death of Tina Turner, 83.

Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade,' the former president wrote. 

Obama's tweet had more than 115,000 likes in the first two hours after it was posted. 

Tina Turner's career was at a standstill in the early 1980s. That was until Australian music producer Roger Davies got her to let him serve as manager and started to book gigs.

One of her first book gigs was at Hilton, which was scheduled 12 months in advance. As Turner waited to perform, her hit Private Dancer was released and relaunched her solo career.

'But she still honored that commitment and so she was performing here in Melbourne at the Hilton for a couple of hundred bucks a night at the time,' entertainment reporter Peter Ford said.

Tina Turner died at her home in Switzerland at the age of 83 on Wednesday, a compound she purchased two years ago for a staggering $76 million. 

The estate, comprised of 10 buildings, was bought by Turner and her German-born husband Erwin Bach as a weekend retreat.

One video getting attention is Turner surprising Oprah on her birthday and performing her hit The Best.

Tina flew in from Switzerland to perform on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2004 for Oprah's 50th birthday, and was introduced to the audience by John Travolta.

Tina Turner's life was filled with many highs and just as many lows. The renowned singer overcame a stroke, an abusive marriage and the death of her two sons during her life.

Turner died Wednesday at age 83 at her Switzerland home.

Her life difficulties started from an early age. Tina's hardships began when she was just a child. She was abandoned by her mother - who she said 'never loved her' - at age 10, followed by her father a few years after that.

Then, at just 22 years old - soon after she was propelled into the spotlight - the What's Love Got To Do With It songstress married the other half of her group, Ike Turner.

And while it may have seemed like a picture-perfect romance at first, it was later brought to light that Tina and Ike's marriage was filled with manipulation tactics, ploys to gain control over her, and gruesome beatings.

After ultimately leaving Ike in 1976, Tina was left broke and homeless - later revealing that she had less than a dollar to her name following the split. 

But the misfortune didn't end there. Tina, who retired from singing in 2009, faced more heartbreak in 2018 when her son, Craig, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She then lost a second child in late 2022, when her son Ronnie passed away at age 62 due to complications of colon cancer.

Years after her failed first marriage with fellow performer Ike, Turner found love from an unlikely source - a German music exec named Erwin Bach.

The pair enjoyed a loving relationship for nearly four decades - meeting in 1985 and eventually marrying in 2013 - until her death Wednesday.

In years past, she praised her second husband for helping her find happiness - remarking how they had an instant connection from the moment they locked eyes inside Dusseldorf airport, Germany. 

Bach, 16 years Turner's junior, was never intimidated by her fame, talent or success and was a constant by her side. He even donated his own kidney in April 2017 to her to save her life

The Queen of Rock 'N' Roll thanked him for teaching her how 'to love without giving up who I am' after her first marriage with Ike Turner was plagued with physical and emotional abuse.

'Her manager Roger [Davies] asked me to pick up Tina,' Bach recalled in the 2021 HBO documentary Tina.

'So Roger said to me, "Tina, you ride with Erwin," and I wanted to go, "Yay!"'

Turner laughed and added: 'He was really so good-looking. My heart [was beating fast] and it means that a soul has met, and my hands were shaking.

'My hands were ice-cold. So this is what they call love at first sight, I thought. Oh my God, I am not ready for this.'

The pair began their relationship in the same year and Turner continued to work with EMI to distribute her music overseas.

'Falling in love with my husband, Erwin, was another exercise in leaving my comfort zone, of being open to the unexpected gifts that life has to offer,' she wrote in Happiness Becomes You: A Guide to Changing Your Life for Good.

'The day I first met Erwin, at an airport in Germany, I should have been too tired from my flight, too preoccupied with thoughts of my concert tour,' she added.   

'But I did notice him, and I instantly felt an emotional connection. Even then, I could have ignored what I felt — I could have listened to the ghost voices in my head telling me that I didn't look good that day, or that I shouldn't be thinking about romance because it never ends well. 

'Instead, I listened to my heart. I left my comfort zone and made it a priority to get to know Erwin. That simple first meeting led to a long, beautiful relationship — and my one true marriage.'

It took 27 years before Bach and Turner, 73 at the time, finally decided to tie the knot in a civil ceremony shores of Lake Zurich in Switzerland in 2013.

Back in December, Turner's youngest son, Ike Jr - named for his father and a Grammy-winning producer in his own right - died aged 62 following a battle with colon cancer.

In a heartfelt post, Turner - who only years before beat cancer herself - remembered her son, saying he life was cut short prematurely.

'Ronnie, you left the world far too early,' the singer wrote. 'In sorrow I close my eyes and think of you, my beloved son.'

Ike Jr. death was predated by his older brother Craig, who committed suicide by shooting himself in 2018. Roughly a decade before, the men's famous father also passed, from a cocaine overdose.

Roughly two years ago, Turner ominously wished fans what appeared to be a final farewell - in a scene in her feature-length documentary 'Tina.'

Then 81, the singer said of her then-waning health: 'It wasn’t a good life. The good did not balance the bad.'

The film, not to be confused with the Oscar-winning biopic starring Angela Bassett, saw the singer repeatedly assert how she wanted to live the last chapter of her life out of the spotlight, with her second-husband in their Kusnacht home.

Describing her recent struggles recovering from a 'mild' stroke, cancer, kidney failure - and PTSD from her first marriage with notorious abuser and fellow performer Ike Turner - Turner expressed a desire to turn the page on her celebrity.

She said at the time: 'Some people say the life that I lived and the performances that I gave, the appreciation, is blasting with the people. And yeah, I should be proud of that. I am.'

A host of celebrities have memorialized Turner in heartfelt posts to social media - and leading the charge is the unlikely trio of George Takei, Sarah Jessica Parker, and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin 'Magic' Johnson.

Star Trek alum Takei, 86. took to Twitter to offer his eloquent tribute to his fellow 60s star - while taking the time to cleverly reference a few of her biggest hits.

'A true legend has passed,' he wrote. 'She was our River Deep and our Mountain High, the Private Dancer in our hearts.'

The former Mr. Sulu continued: 'She showed us that love really does have everything to do with it, and that we really did need another hero. And she was it. Rest now, Proud Mary. Raise your voice high in the heavens.'

Also offering fond words was Sex and the City and And Just Like That... star Parker - who included a photo of Turner grinning ecstatically on stage.

'Simply the best. RIP Ms. Turner. I loved and love you. Thank you,' she wrote, before wishing her 'Godspeed.'

Lakers icon Johnson - who famously fought and survived HIV in the 80s - shared a photo from that era that showed him towering over Turner while both grinned ear to ear.

He traced her influence to later showstoppers like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé.

'Tina would have so much energy during her performances and was a true entertainer,' he wrote. 'She created the blueprint for other great entertainers like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé and her legacy will continue on through all high-energy performing acts.'

Piers Morgan also eulogized the songstress - by sharing a photo of her looking jubilant and youthful in a glittering red mini dress.

'RIP Tina Turner,' wrote the English broadcaster, before summing her up succinctly: 'Simply, the best.'

Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger - who famously shared the stage with Turner during the 1985 London fundraising concert Live Aid - offered a touching tribute to the musician on Wednesday as new of her death surfaced.

The iconic set 37 years ago featured stirring renditions of Jagger's Jackson 5 jam State Of Shock, and the Stones' It's Only Rock 'n' Roll.

Citing those and other electrifying performances over the years, Jagger remembered Turner as a mentor - and one of the most influential figures in music.

'I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner,' the 79-year-old singe wrote shortly after 4pm ET.

'She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.'

In another statement from reps for the songstress, staffers who had served under Turner announced 'the "Queen of Rock'n Roll"... died peacefully today at the age of 83.

As for what spurred her death, representatives wrote only wrote that she died 'after a long illness.'

The post went on to highlight some of the musician's greatest achievements - as well as her meteoric rise from an impoverished girl in rural Tennessee to one of the most seminal artists in history.

'With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,' they wrote of the late icon.

They added that there will be a private funeral ceremony for the singer only 'attended by close friends and family'.

The statement further insisted: 'Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time. Further press inquiries will not be answered.'

Turner's last post to Instagram, published on March 9, recalled the bout with kidney disease that nearly claimed her life a few years ago.

The decorated solo performer's anecdote came in adherence of International World Kidney Day - an occasion she touted as 'important'.

'Today is International World Kidney Day,' Turner wrote to her nearly 1million followers.

She went on to ask: 'Why is it important? Because kidneys fail without pain. And that's why I'm telling you today: Show your kidneys love! They deserve it.'

Turner then offered insight as to how she may have brought on the malady herself by deciding to stop taking medication for her high blood pressure and replacing it with homeopathy - something she said put an unnecessary strain on her heart and other vital organs.

'My kidneys are victims of my not realising that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine,' the singer recalled in what would prove to be final post on social media.

'I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.'

She went on to tout a new international campaign for kidney health that she had recently partnered with.

Reps for the widely recognized Queen of Rock 'n' Roll would not say what caused her death Wednesday, but it is known that she had been ill health for the past several years.

Diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016, she had a successful kidney transplant in 2017, perhaps saving her life.

The person to provide her with the vital organ was her husband, German music executive Erwin Bach, whom she wed in 2013.

In 2018, Tina Turner recalled the difficult decision between dialysis and a transplant in her autobiography My Love Story, giving some insight into her illness - and the relationship with her now widow - in the process.

'Only the transplant would give me a good chance of a near-normal life. But the chances of getting a donor kidney were remote,' Turner recalled of that December day.

Adding that she didn't want to 'live on a machine,' she said: 'It wasn't my idea of life. But the toxins in my body had started taking over.

'I couldn't eat. I was surviving but not living. I began to think about death.'

She continued: 'If my kidneys were going, and it was time for me to die, I could accept that. It was OK. When it's time, it's really time.'

Shockingly, she also wrote that she signed up for assisted suicide, before her husband selflessly jumped in - and was found to be a match.

'He said he didn't want another woman, or another life,' Turner recalled at the time.

'Then he shocked me. He said he wanted to give me one of his kidneys.'

The operation was eventually a success, and came as Turner was still on the mend from her aformentioned bout with cancer - then in remission. Shortly before, she suffered a 'mild stroke', around the time she wed her second husband.

Tina Turner has died aged 83 - with her surviving relatives confirming her passing through a statement.

It read as follows: 'It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner.

'With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.

'Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.'
