A Texas mom, whose teenage son went missing in a river during a boating trip, has pleaded for help to 'bring my baby back to me.'

Conner Curtice, 14, disappeared while he was boating with a friend in the Neches River during a Memorial Day trip on Monday - and a desperate search mission was quickly launched to find him.

The boy was traveling in a flat bottom boat with an 18-year-old, and while they were cruising, the vessel veered sharply, throwing them both into the water.

Conner was last seen face down, before slipping into the water.

His mother Ashlea is asking for prayers as they try and find his body in the river. She wrote online: 'GOD...Please bring my baby back to me....PLEASE.'

Capt. Ryan Hall, from Texas Parks & Wildlife, said in a statement: 'The two friends were in a flat bottom boat with a tiller handle.

'They were both sitting at the back of the boat, side by side.

'There is a little plug in the boat where water accumulates in the back.

'The driver, an 18-year-old, supposedly told the 14-year old to hold the motor while the operator pulled out some of the water.

'The operator reached down and the boat veered sharply when the tiller motor turned. It threw both of them into the water.

'The operator was wearing a kill switch.

'He came back up and got back into the boat.

'He saw the 14-year-old face down on top of the water, but he was too far away to get to him quickly. The 14-year-old slipped underwater.'

Family and friends have taken to social media to ask for prayers for Conner.

One friend of the family said: 'My heart is so heavy and my prayers are lifted! Dear God, please find Conner! Please be with this precious family at this most difficult time and be with the search team to help find him!

Another added: 'We are lifting this young man up to you Lord. Lets flood Texas with prayer.'

Last night, before the search resumed this morning, another friend of the family said: 'The search has been called off now that it is dark. It will resume at daylight early tomorrow morning.

'They have closed the ship channel so no boats can go in or out of that area. Please continue your prayers for Conner, Ashlea Rae, Josh Curtice, Clay, Colby and their entire family.

'This is a parents worst nightmare and my heart is breaking for them. Please stop whatever you are doing and pray. Please pray to our God that is bigger than anything we could ever face. Please, please pray.'
